AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE #3656 ENTITLED "AN ORDI-
NANCE ADOPTING AND PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRA-
TION OF THE COMPENSATION PLAN" AS AMENDED, SO -
AS TO PROVIDE FOR A PLAN OF COMPENSATION FOR MERIT
FOR THE FIRE DIVISION AND POLICE DIVISION OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT SUBSECTION (B) OF SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE
#3656, AS AMENDED IS HEREBY AMENDED BY ADDING TO THE SCHEDULE OF
FIRE AND POLICE SERIES, PUBLIC SAFETY GROUP, MONTHLY BASE SALARY
SCHEDULE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 2. SUBSECTION (B) OF SECTION 2 OF ORDINANCE
#3656, AS AMENDED IS HEREBY AMENDED BY ADDING A NEW SECTION AS
FOLLOWS:
POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR ADVANCEMENT
TO INTERMEDIATE STEPS IN ACCORDANCE WITH PARAGRAPH (9) OF SUBSECTION
(B) OF SECTION 2 OF THIS ORDINANCE.
(9) "IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE2 POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN
WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR ADVANCEMENT TO INTERMEDIATE STEPS AFTER COM-
PLETION OF 18 MONTHS OF SERVICE AND PRESECRIBED TRAINING COURSES AS
APPROVED BY THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CIVIL SERVICE BOARD. THE
INTERMEDIATE STEPS WILL BE FROM $2.00 TO $10.00 FOR SALARY GRADE A,
STEP 3; FROM $2.00 TO $14.00 FOR SALARY GRADE B; AND FROM $2.00 TO
$15.00 FOR SALARY GRADES C -J."
SECTION 3. THE NECESSITY TO MAKE THE AMENDMENTS DESCRIBED
ABOVE CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY
REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION
AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL
MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCILP AND THE MAYOR, HAVING DECLARED SUCH
EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO EXIST, HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF
SAID CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE
DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE TAKE EFFECT AND BE

IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE
SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLU-
TION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL;
1, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIRE-
MENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE
PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
