A RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE DESIGNATION BY CUSTOMS AND
IMMIGRATION SERVICE OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AS A PORT OF ENTRY;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI IN COOPERATION WITH
THE FEDERAL AVIATION AGENCY HAS ACQUIRED THE SITE AND CONSTRUCTED
IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW AND MODERN AIRPORT,
OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED AS "CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPO'RT'S;
AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI HAS A MARITIME PORT OF
ENTRY WHICH HAS IN ATTENDANCE PERSONNEL OF THE CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION
SERVICE AND SUCH PERSONNEL WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR SERVING CORPUS
CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AS A PORT OF ENTRY; AND
WHEREAS, IT WOULD BE A GREAT CONVENIENCE TO THE TRAVELLING
PUBLIC THROUGH CORPUS CHRISTI ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS TO AND FROM
POINTS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO BE ABLE TO OBTAIN
CUSTOMS SERVICE AT THE CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT; AND
WHEREAS, THE NEW CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS
LOCATED GEOGRAPHICALLY IN SUCH A WAY THAT AIRCRAFT FLIGHTS, BOTH
COMMERCIAL AND CIVIL, COULD BE EXPEDITIOUSLY CLEARED FOR FLIGHTS
INTO AND FROM MEXICO:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. IT IS THE DESIRE AND REQUEST OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI THAT THE NEW CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT BE DESIGNATED AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF ENTRY AND THAT
ALL REASONABLE AND NECESSARY STEPS BE TAKEN TO SECURE SUCH DESIGNA-
TION SO THAT THE NECESSARY CUSTOMS SERVICES MAY BE PROVIDED AT THE
NEW CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR FLIGHTS, BOTH COMMERCIAL
AND CIVIL, BETWEEN CORPUS CHRISTI AND FOREIGN AIRPORTS.
SECTION 2. THE NECESSITY FOR DESIGNATING THE NEW CORPUS
CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AS A PORT OF ENTRY CREATES A PUBLIC

EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION
OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED
FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL,
AND THE MAYOR, HAVING DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO EXIST,
HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF SAID CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS
RESOLUTION TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER
ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED AND APPROVED, THIS THE Y DAY
OF JULY, 1960.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE
SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLU-
TION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL;
1, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIRE-
MENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE
PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
