AN ORDINANCE
OFFICIALLY DESIGNATING THE STREET EXTENDING FROM
COOPER STREET SOUTH TO FURMAN AVENUE. - SOMETIMES
CALLED 'WATER STREET" AND SOMETIMES CALLED "OCEAN
DRIVE ", AS'WATER STREET "; AND DECLARING AN EMER. CY
WHEREAS, THE CITY STREET EXTENDING FROM A POINT NEAR THE
BASCULE BRIDGE, NORTH OF DAN REID STREET TO BUFORD STREET, HAS BEEN
OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED AS 'WATER STREET" TO COOPER STREET, AND IS
SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS 'WATER STREET" AND SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS
"OCEAN DRIVE" AS TO THAT PORTION EXTENDING FROM COOPER STREET TO
BUFORD STREET; AND
WHEREAS, ALL OF SAID STREET NORTH OF THE INTERSECTION OF FUR-
MAN AVENUE SHOULD BE DESIGNATED BY A SINGLE NAME AND SAID STREET IS
MOST GENERALLY REFERRED TO AS 'WATER STREET" AND IS A CONTINUATION OF
WATER STREET, EXTENDING NORTHWARD FROM COOPER STREET TO A POINT NEAR
THE BASCULE BRIDGE:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT ALL OF THAT STREET EXTENDING SOUTHWARD FROM
COOPER STREET TO FURMAN AVENUE, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS 'WATER STREET"
AND SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS "OCEAN DRIVE ", BE AND THE SA I ME 15 HEREBY
DESIGNATED AS 'WATER STREET ". jr
SECTION 2. THE NECESSITY FOR OFFICIAL DESIGNATION EFFECTIVE
IMMEDIATELY OF THE STREET NAME OF THE STREET HEREINABOVE REFERRED TO
CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE
OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL,
AND THE MAYOR, HAVING DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO EXIST,
HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF THE SAID CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS
ORDINANCE TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM )�JAND AFTER
ITS PASSAGE,IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED AND APPROVED, THIS d DAY OF

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST F'OR THE
SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLU-
TION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED1 AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL;
1, THEREFORE HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIRE-
MENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED' OR AT THE
PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
