AN ORDINANCE
CLOSING A PORTION OF THE AREA DESIGNATED AS LAREDO STREET,
NORTH OF AND ABUTTING BLOCK 1 OF STEELE ADDITION IN THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS, AND EXTENDING
EASTWARD FROM BLUNTZER STREET TO THE EAST LINE OF SAID BLOCK
1 OF STEELE ADDITION, RESERVING A UTILITY EASEMENT FOR
EXISTING UTILITIES BUT OTHERWISE ABANDONING THE SAID STREET
AREA UNTO THE ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS OF STEELE ADDITION;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, NOTICE OF THE INTENTION OF CLOSING A PORTION OF THE AREA
DESIGNATED AS LAREDO STREET, NORTH OF AND ABUTTING BLOCK 1 OF STEELE
ADDITION, AND EXTENDING EASTWARD FROM BLUNTZER STREET TO THE„ EAST LINE
OF BLOCK 1 OF STEELE ADDITION TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; NUECES COUNTY,
TEXAS, HAS BEEN GIVEN BY PUBLICATION AND REGISTERED MAIL TO THE LAST
KNOWN ADDRESS OF ALL OWNERS ABUTTING SAID STREET AND WITHIN 450 FEET THERE-
OF, AND THEREAFTER, PURSUANT TO SAID NOTICE, A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON
THE 13TH DAY OF JULY, 196o, BY THE CITY COUNCIL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
PROVISIONS OF THE CITY CHARTER; AND
WHEREAS, IT HAS BEEN DULY DETERMINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, AFTER
SUCH PUBLIC HEARING THAT THE SAID AREA HAS NEVER BEEN USED AS A PUBLIC
STREET ALTHOUGH SHOWN ON THE RECORDED MAP OF STEELE ADDITION TO THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND IS NOT NEEDED AS A PUBLIC STREET IN THE FORESEEABLE
FUTURE; AND
WHEREAS, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT IT WILL BE TO THE ADVANTAGE
OF THE CITY TO ABANDON SAID AREA AS A PUBLIC STREET SO THAT THE SAME MAY
BE USED BY THE AUBTTING PROPERTY OWNERS FOR OTHER PURPOSES, EXCEPT SO
MUCH THEREOF AS IS OCCUPIED BY UTILITY LINES, INCLUDING SEWER LINES OF
THE CITY, TO THE EFFECT THAT SUCH EASEMENT SHALL BE 10 FEET IN WIDTH,
HAVING A CENTER LINE COINCIDENTAL WITH THE CENTER OF SUCH SEWER LINE:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THERE IS HEREBY CLOSED FOR PUBLIC USE THE AREA
DESIGNATED AS LAREDO STREET, NORTH OF AND ABUTTING BLOCK 1 OF STEELE ADDI-
TION IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS, AND EXTENDING
EASTWARD FROM BLUNTZER STREET TO THE EAST LINE OF SAID BLOCK 1 OF STEELE

ADDITION EXTENDED NORTHWARD FROM THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF SAID
ADDITION, AND ABANDONING THE SAME TO THE ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS IN STEELE
ADDITION TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, SAVE AND EXCEPT THAT THERE IS HERE-
BY RESERVED TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI A UTILITY EASEMENT FOR EXISTING
UTILITIES, INCLUDING SEWER LINES OF THE CITY, TO THE EFFECT THAT SUCH
EASEMENT SHALL BE 10 FEET IN WIDTH HAVING A CENTER LINE COINCIDENTAL WITH
THE CENTER OF SUCH SEWER LINE.
SECTION 2. UPON THE PROVIDING OF AN ADEQUATE UTILITY EASEMENT
AND RELOCATION OF THE EXISTING UTILITY LINES, ALL AT THE EXPENSE OF THE
ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS, THE UTILITY EASEMENT HEREBY RESERVED SHALL TERMI-
NATE.
SECTION 3. THE FACT THAT THE PUBLIC CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY
WOULD BE BETTER SERVED BY THE CLOSING OF THE AREA HEREINABOVE DESCRIBED
AND THE ABANDONING OF THE PROPERTY TO THE ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS CREATES
A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION
OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY
ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR, HAVING
DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO EXIST, HAVING REQUESTED THE SUS-
PENSION OF SAID CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON
THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN
FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY PASSED
AND APPROVED, THIS THE AY OF 1g6o.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE
SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLU-
TION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL;
I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIRE-
MENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE
PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
