HomeMy WebLinkAbout06811 RES - 02/06/1963RESOLUTION NO. 6811 WHEREAS, on November 7, 1961, in accordance with the provision of Public Law 71, 84th Congress, a hearing was held in Corpus Christi, Texas, by the District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, concerning Hurricane Flood Protection for the Corpus Christi Area; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is vitally interested in the Corps of Engineers study and devel- opment of a plan for providing flood protection for the Corpus Christi and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi presented extensive testimony concerning the;; need for such a study and plan for this area at the November 7, hearing; and WHEREAS, the possibility of damage to Corpus Christi and the surrounding Gulf Coast areas has been demonstrated by the occurrence of the Hurricane Carla; and WHEREAS, the available funds for such a study and plan development are inadequate: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY, OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS that an expanded Hurricane Study and development of a comprehensive plan for improvements to provide hurricane protection for the Gulf Coast Area in- culding the Corpus Christi Bay Area be authorized by the Congress of the United States at an early date and that the necessary appropriations be provided for such study and plan; and EE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Honorable John Young, member of Congress and Senators Ralph Yarborough and John Tower and such further copies to members of the House and Senate as may.:be determined.
