HomeMy WebLinkAbout06816 RES - 02/20/1963IMb :JKH :2 -20 -63 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, BAY AREAS IN AND AROUND CORPUS CHRISTI HAVE CONSTITUTED A NATURAL RESOURCE FOR THE DREDGING OF SHELL AND FOR THE PRODUCTION OF OYSTERS WHICH ARE OF MATERIAL VALUE TO THE ECONOMY OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI AND SURROUNDING AREA; AND WHEREAS, THE TWO INDUSTRIES OF PRODUCTION OF OYSTERS AND THE PRODUCTION OF SHELL HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED IN HARMONY WITH EACH OTHER AND WITHOUT INFRINGEMENT UPON EACH OTHER UNDER THE SUPERVI- SION OF THE STATE GAME AND FISH COMMISSION UNDER THE-LAW AS IT NOW EXISTS; AND WHEREAS, HOUSE BILL 161, INTRODUCED BY REPRESENTATIVES GARRISON AND MILLER, IS NOW PENDING IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE BY THE TERMS OF WHICH BILL THE PRODUCTION OF OYSTER SHELL WOULD BE A DOMINANT INDUSTRY AND THE SUPERVISION AND PROTECTION OF OYSTER BEDS AND THE OYSTER PRODUCTION NOW EXISTING UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE STATE GAME AND FISH COMMISSION WOULD BE DISCONTINUED, TO THE DETRI- MENT OF THE OYSTER PRODUCTION INDUSTRY: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: THAT IT IS A DETERMINATION OF THE CITY - COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, ACTING AS DULY ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI!THAT THE ADOPTION OF PROPOSED HOUSE BILL 161 SHOULD Be OPPOSED AND THAT THE SUPERVISION AND DISCRETION HERETOFORE AUTHORIZED AND EXERCISED BY THE STATE GAME AND FISH COMMISSION FOR THE PROTECTION OF OYSTER BEDS AND THE PRODUCTION OF OYSTERS SHOULD BE CONTINUED IN EFFECT. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION BE FURNISHED TO MEMBERS OF THE STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE SENATE AND THEIR ACTIVE OPPOSITION TO THE BILL BE ENLISTED.
