AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE ELECTRICAL CODE ORDINANCE NO. F
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, BEING
2204, PASSED AND APPROVED ON THE 30TH DAY OF
DECEMBER, 1947, ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE REGULAT-
ING ELECTRIC WIRING WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR SAFE-
GUARDING PERSONS AND PROPERTY AND PROMOTING THE
WELFARE OF THE PUBLIC; CREATING THE OFFICE OF
CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR AND PRESCRIBING HIS
DUTIES, RIGHTS AND AUTHORITIES; ESTABLISHING
STANDARDS FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND FOR ITS
INSTALLATION AND REQUIRING CONFORMITY THEREWITH;
MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO UNDERTAKE THE INSTALLATION
OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WITHOUT A PERMIT THEREFOR,
EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED; PROVIDING FOR THE
REGISTRATION ESTABLISHING OINSPECTIONCPERMITTKFEES, PROVVIDI TORS;

AMENDED, BY AMENDING PARAGRAPH 2 OF SUBSECTION (B)
OF SECTION 9 -11 SO AS TO PERMIT TWELVE (12) OUTLETS
FOR OTHER OCCUPANCIES OVER 200 VPLTS WHEN THE TOTAL
LOAD DOES NOT EXCEED 80% OF THE BRANCH CIRCUIT BATING;
CONTAINING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
IN VIDINGFFORTAN EFFECTIVERDATE ;NANDODECLARINGTANN; PRO -
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT ORDINANCE NO. 2204, PASSED AND APPROVED ON
THE 30TH DAY OF DECEMBER, 1947, ALSO KNOWN AS THE "ELECTRICAL CODE OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS% ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING
ELECTRIC WIRING WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR SAFEGUARDING PERSONS AND PROPERTY AND PROMOTING THE
WELFARE OF THE PUBLIC; CREATING THE OFFICE OF CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR
AND PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES, RIGHTS AND AUTHORITY; ESTABLISHING STANDARDS
FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND FOR ITS INSTALLATION AND REQUIRING CONFORMITY
THEREWITH; MAKING IT UNLAWFUL TO UNDERTAKE THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL
EQUIPMENT WITHOUT A PERMIT THEREFOR, EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED; PRO-
VIDING FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS AND CONTRACTORS;
ESTABLISHING INSPECTION FEES; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF
THIS ORDINANCE AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT WITH THIS ORDINANCE ",
AS AMENDED, BE AMENDED BY AMENDING PARAGRAPH 2 OF SUBSECTION (e) OF
SECTION 9 -11, TO HEREAFTER READ AS FOLLOWS:
"SECTION 9 -11: SPECIAL ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT RULES:
NUMBER OF OUTLETS PER CIRCUITS
2. OTHER OCCUPANCIES 110- 115 -120 VOLTS .... 6
OTHER OCCUPANCIES OVER 200 VOLTS ...... 12
TOTAL LOAD SHALL NOT EXCEED 80% OF THE
BRANCH CIRCUIT RATING.
SECTION 2. IF FOR ANY REASON ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUB-
DIVISION, CLAUSE, PHRASE OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE HELD
INVALID, IT SHALL NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISIONS OF THIS OR ANY OTHER
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO WHICH THESE RULES AND REGULA-
TIONS RELATE.
SECTION 3. ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH SHALL BE AND ARE HEREBY REPEALED.
SECTION 4. PUBLICATION SHALL BE MADE IN THE OFFICIAL PUBLI-
CATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ONE TIME, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL
CONTAIN THE CAPTION STATING IN SUMMARY THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE AND
THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF.
SECTION 5. THIS ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE EFFECT FROM AND AFTER
THE DATE OF ITS PASSAGE.
SECTION 6. THE PUBLIC IMPORTANCE OF THIS ORDINANCE IN PERMITTING
TWELVE OUTLETS FOR OTHER OCCUPANCIES OVER 200 VOLTS WHEN THE TOTAL LOAD
DOES NOT EXCEED 80% OF THE BRANCH CIRCUIT RATING CREATES*A PUBLIC EMER-
GENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF
THE CHARTER RULE PROVIDING THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE
PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE
OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND
PUBLIC NECESSITY EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE
Be SUSPENDED, AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE
AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the fore-
going ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for
the suspension of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or
resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that
such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City
Council; I, therefore, hereby request that you suspend said Charter rule
or requirement and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
