A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, THE QUESTION OF INTEGRATION OF PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS
AND AMUSEMENT FACILITIES WITHIN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI HAS BEEN
CONSIDERED FROM ALL ANGLES AND IT IS DETERMINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THAT
IT IS IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST THAT INTEGRATION PROCEED TO THE EXTENT
THAT THERE BE NO DISCRIMINATION BY REASON OF RACE, COLOR OR CREED FOR
PERSONS SEEKING PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS OR ADMISSION TO PUBLIC AMUSEMENT
FACILITIES.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,.AS
ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
STRONGLY FAVORS AND SUPPORTS FULL INTEGRATION OF ALL PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS
AND PUBLIC AMUSEMENT FACILITIES AND THEREFORE HEREBY ASKS THAT ALL BUSINESSES
WHICH ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ADOPT A POLICY AND PRACTICE OF SERVING ALL
PERSONS REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED OR COLOR.
SECTION 2. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION
BE FORWARDED TO EACH PLACE OF BUSINESS OFFERING ACCOMMODATIONS TO THE
PUBLIC AND ALL PUBLIC AMUSEMENT FACILITIES WITH THE REQUEST THAT EACH
OF SAID BUSINESS OPERATORS ACKNOWLEDGE THE RECEIPT OF A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION AND SIGNIFY THE INTENTION TO ADOPT A POLICY OF SERVING ALL
PERSONS WITHOUT REGARD TO RACE, CREED OR COLOR, AND RETURN SUCH SIGNED
STATEMENT TO THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
ADDRESSED TO BOX 1622, CITY HALL, CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.
SECTION 3. THE CITY SECRETARY OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
IS HEREBY DIRECTED TO PREPARE SUFFICIENT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO
CARRY OUT THE PROVISIONS OF THE PRECEDING SECTION AND SEND A COPY TO EACH
OF THE BUSINESSES DESCRIBED IN THIS RESOLUTION SERVING THE PUBLIC, WITH A
SHORT STATEMENT OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RECEIPT OF THE SAME AND ADOPTION
OF SUCH INTEGRATION POLICY ATTACHED TO SAID COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION FOR
THE CONVENIENCE OF EACH OF SAID BUSINESS OPERATORS.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; 11 THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO -
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
