AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, 1958,
AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING A PORTION OF SECTION
21 -68, AS AMENDED, AND PARTICULARLY AS
AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 6853, PASSED AND
APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON MARCH 27, 1963
SO AS TO FIX SPEED LIMITS ON PORTIONS OF FM. 24
(VIOLET ROAD) WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS, AS SET
OUT HEREINAFTER: PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, 1958, AS
AMENDED, BE, AND THE SAME IS HEREBY, AMENDED BY AMENDING PORTIONS OF
SECTION 21 -68, AS AMENDED, AND PARTICULARLY AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE
N0. 6853, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON MARCH 27, 1963,
BY DELETING ALL REFERENCE TO F. M. 24 IN SAID ORDINANCE NO. 6853,
AND SUBSTITUTING THE PROVISIONS AS FOLLOWS:

FM 24 (VIOLET ROAD):
FROM LEOPARD STREET (S.H.9)
TO A POINT 5531.35 FEET SOUTH OF
LEOPARD STREET (S.H.9) 45 MILES PER HOUR AT ALL TIMES
FROM A POINT 5531.55 FEET SOUTH
OF LEOPARD STREET (S.H.9) TO
THE CITY LIMITS SOUTH 55 MILES PER HOUR AT ALL TIMES
SECTION 2. PUBLICATION SHALL BE MADE IN THE OFFICIAL PUBLI-
CATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, ONE TIME, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL
CONTAIN THE CAPTION STATING IN SUBSTANCE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE.
SECTION 3. ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH SHALL BE AND ARE HEREBY REPEALED.
SECTION 4. THE NECESSITY TO IMMEDIATELY AMEND THE SPEED LIMITS
AS HEREINABOVE SET FORTH CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE
PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS
INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT
THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING

DECLARED THAT SUCH EMERGENCY EXISTS, AND HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPEN-
SION OF SAID CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE TAKE EFFECT AND BE
IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE AND PUBLICATION,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE J4 DAY OF OCTOBER,
1963.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; 1, THEREFORE HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO-
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
