Sunday
By EARL L. DOUGLASS
The Sunday school lesson for
lecember 1 is entitled "The
.race of Generosity." It deals
dth one of the most important
spects of our faith. The word
'generosity" comes from the
,.tin word "gens," which
neaps "tribe." The generous
erson therefore is one who has
he feeling of fellowship for
ethers. He looks upon the hu-
aan race as a vast family, or
ripe, and he has that out -going
pint of food will toward every-
ody whwh makes him indeed'
citizen of the world.
ANYONE reading this lesson
the text of which is II Cor.
:6.15) may indeed be confused
y the involved statements he
ncounters. Throughout these
en verses runs the theme of
owing and rbaping. The position
which St.+ Paul, the
vriter of the epistle, takes is
hat he that sows generously
vill reap generously. If he is
paring in the' seed he casts
qto the ground he must not be
6rprised or dismayed if his
iarvest is correspondingly cur
ailed. A good harvest depends
ipon a wise and plenteous sow-
ng.
Religious faith involves boun-
iful and cheerful generosity.:
I we think we can be trulyM
%ristian and at the same time
naintain a policy of penny
pinching relative to the ]
Jhurch's great projects, then
ve are mistaken. God has a i
pecial love for generous peo -
de. sometime even those who
nake no pretense of religion I
vhatsoever are generous ml
heir giving. On the whole, how -

mphasizes the fact that if a

t gives even more benefit to

IN ALL THIS, of course, we
ave the exaniple of God Him -
elf. Everything we enjoy in
his life is a gift from God. We
nay take the factors of life
and work diligently upon them
o our improvement and to the
ietterment of the world, but the
iasic factors themselves are
'oil's gifts. Even the hands
vith which we work and the
nind with which we think have
seen given us of God. We have
tothing to do with the creation
if the ;e important factors. God
ias made it amply possible for
;verybody to do a helpful piece
if work in the world and He is
lever satisfied until we accom-
ilish that good work. He does
tot expect us to have achieve -
nents of outstanding glory, if
le has modestly endowed us
vith ability.
But what he does expect is
hat we shall give, and give al-
vays, in the right spirit.
vurtbermore, God has given us
he greatest example of His
iwn generosity in the gift of
11' Son to a needy and un. er
