AN ORDINANCE �}
PRESCRIBING THE TATS TO BE LEVIED, ASSESSED AND COLLECTED
BY THE CITY OF CCRP<S CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1964
AND FOR EACH SUCCEEDING YEAR THEREAFTER UNTIL OTHERWISE
PROVIDID AND ORDAINED, AND SUCH OTHER YEARS AS THE SAME
MAY BE "APPLICABLE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That there is hereby levied, to be assessed and collected
in current money of the United States of America, for the use of the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Year 1964, and for each succeeding year thereafter,
until otherwise provided and ordained, an annual direct ad valorem tax of
8130 on each One Hundred Dollars ($100) value thereof, on all property, real,
personal, and mixed, located within the said City of Corpus Christi, upon which

a tax is authorized to be levied by law, and upon all franchises of all
individuals, partners, and corporation holding franchises in the City from
said City of Corpus Christi, Texas, said tax to be appropriated to the
payment and defrayment of current expenses of the Government of said City.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby levied to be assessed and collected
in current money of the United States of America, for the use of the City of
Corpus Christi, for the Year 1964, and for each succeeding year thereafter until
otherwise provided and ordained, an annual direct ad valorem tax of $.2420 on
each One Hundred Dollars ($100) of value thereof, upon all property and franchises
described in Section 1 of this Ordinance, said Tax to be appropriated and used in
making payments for General Street Improvements and building bridges in the City
of Corpus Christi, Texas.
SECTION 3• That for the purpose of paying interest and providing the
necessary sinking funds for the payment of outstanding bonds and bonded indebted-
ness of the City of Corpus Christi, and for paying interest and making provisions
for the sinking fluid of such future issues as may be authorized, there is hereby
levied for the Year 1964, and for each succeeding year thereafter, unless other-
wise provided and ordained, to be assessed and collected in current money of the
United States of America, upon all property and franchises described in Section 1
of this Ordinance, an annual direct ad valorem tax of $.5850 on each One Hundred
Dollars ($100) of value thereof, which said taxes as and when the same shall be
collected, shall be appropriated and credited to the following bond interest and
sinking funds of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas:

(1) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
0135 for the purpose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Refunding Bonds, Series
1936, dated February 1, 1936;
(2) Out of the amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0049 for the purpose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Street Improvement Bonds,
Series 1940, dated June 1, 1940;
(3) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0087 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Sanitary Sewer Improvement
and Extension Bonds, Series 1940, dated June 1, 1940;
(4) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0011 for the purpose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fund to pay Airport Improvement Bonds,
Series 1948, dated June 1, 1948;
(5) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0006 for the purpose of paying interest and creating
the necessary sinking fluid to pay Park Bonds, Series 1948,
dated June 1, 1948;
(6) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0164 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Storm Sewer Bonds, Series 1948,
dated June 1, 1948;
(7) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0079 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay City Hall Bonds, Series 1950,
dated January 15, 1950;
(8) Out of said amount of •5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0012 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Fire Station Bonds, Series
1950, dated January 15, 1950;
(9) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0010 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Municipal Auditorium Bonds,
Series 1950, dated January 15, 1950;
(10) Out of said amount of .5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0081 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking Hind to pay Municipal Auditorium Bonds,
Series 1950 -A, dated November 1, 1950;
(11) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0 .0036 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Police Building Bonds, Series
1950, dated January 15, 1950;
(12) but of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
0040 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Public Library Bonds, Series
1950, dated November 1, 1950;
(13) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0010 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay Public Park Bonds, Series
1950, dated January 15, 1950;

(44) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0250 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay General Improvement Bonds,
Series 1963, dated January 15, 1963;
(45) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.1006 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay General Improvement Bonds,
Series 1963 -A, dated October 1, 1963; and
(46) Out of said amount of $0.5850 there is hereby appropriated
$0.0160 for the purpose of paying interest and creating the
necessary sinking fund to pay any bond that may be issued
during the fiscal year 1964 -65.
SECTION 4. All taxes for the Year 1964 hereby levied shall become due
and payable at the Office of the Tax Assessor- Collector of the City of Corpus
Christi, Texas, on or after the first day of August, 1964, and if the taxes
levied for said year are not paid on or before January 31st next after becoming
due, interest shall be charged upon the gross amount of the taxes due and
penalty due until paid at the rate of one -half of one percent (1/2 of 1%) for
each month or fraction thereof thereafter. Said interest shall be in addition
to such penalties as may be hereafter provided for delinquent taxes. No discount
for payment of taxes prior to such taxes becoming delinquent shall be allowed.
SECTION 5. In addition to all other taxes, there is hereby levied
a tax in the nature of a street rental fee, against all persons, firms or
corporations having any pipes, mains, conductors or other facilities in any
public ways, streets, alleys, utility easements, or waters within the City
limits of the City of Corpus Christi as part of a Public Utility System.
Said tax shall be based on the gross receipts of such public utility derived
from the sale of gas, electricity or water or other utility service within
the City limits. Said tax is payable for each and every calendar year, and
shall be paid on or before March 1 next following the end of such calendar
year. Such payments shall be made to the Assessor - Collector of Taxes of
the City with a verified statement showing the amount of such gross sales
for the respective year. A reasonable tax or charge is hereby determined to
be two percent (2%) of the gross receipts of such utility derived from the
sale of gas, electric energy, or water and /or other utility service within
the City of Corpus Christi and is hereby levied in that amount. In the
event a street rental fee and /or occupation tax is by State Law prohibited,
except as to a different rate than as is hereby levied, then the rate is
hereby fixed at the highest rate permitted by State law to be levied by the'
City. Any public utility having a franchise from the City or for any reason
permitted to operate within the City shall be liable for the payment of the
tax hereby levied unless a different rate of payment or other consideration
is provided by written agreement with the City.
SECTION 6. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid, it shall
not affect any valid provisions of this or any other ordinance of the City of
Corpus Christi to which these rules and regulations relate.
SECTION 7. That the fact that the passage of an ordinance for the
levying of taxes for the City of Corpus Christi for the Year 1964 is necessary
and important to the people of the City and the further fact that the preparation
and completion of the tax rolls of the City for the Year 1964 is dependent upon
the passage of this ordinance, and in order that said tax roll may be completed
and ready for the collection of said taxes when the same becomes due and payable
as aforesaid, creates an emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring
the suspension of the Charter rule providing that no ordinance or resolution
shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and
the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested
the suspension of said Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed finally on
the date of its introduction and take effect and be in hill force and effect
from and after the passage of same, IT IS ACCORDINGLY ORDAINED this the

RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL) 1, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO -
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
