AN ORDINANCE
ESTABLISHING RATES OF FARE FOR TAXICABS FOR ONE OR
MORE PERSONS AT FORTY -FIVE CENTS (45¢); FOR THE FIRST
FOUR- SEVENTHS (4/7) OF A MILE AND TEN CENTS (10¢)
ADDITIONAL FOR EACH SUCCEEDING TWO- SEVENTHS (2/7 OF
A MILE OR FRACTION THEREOF; REPEALING ALL PREVIOUS
TAXICAB RATE ORDINANCES; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THEI CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS: 1
SECTION 1. THERE IS HEREBY ESTABLISHED AS THE RATES OF FARE FOR a
TAXICABS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI FOR ONE OR
MORE PERSONS,'NOT EXCEEDI'N'G FIVE PERSONS, OF FORTY —FIVE CENTS (45¢) FOR
THE FIRST FOUR— SEVENTHS (4/7) OF A MILEaOR LESS, AND TEN CENTS (10¢) ADDI-
TIONAL FOR EACH SUCCEEDING TWO— SEVENTHS (2/7) OF A MILE OR FRACTION THEREOF.
SECTION 2. ALL ORDINANCES FIXING RATES FOR TAXICAB FARES HERETO-
FORE IN EXISTENCE ARE HEREBY REPEALED.
SECTION 3. THIS ORDINANCE SHAL•L"TAKE EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS
PUBLICATION ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL CONTAIN THE CAPTION STATING IN SUMMARY THE
PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE.
SECTION 4. THE NECESSITY TO PROVIDE PROPER, SUFFICIENT AND
ADEQUATE TAXICAB SERVICE IS ESSENTIAL TO AND IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE
WELFARE OF THE CITIZENS OF CORPUS CHRISTI, AND THE FACT THAT THIS ORDINANCE
IS NECESSARY TOOBTAIN SUCH RESULTS, CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IM-
PERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT
NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRO-
DUCTION, AND THAT SAID ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL
MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH
EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY EXIST AND REQUESTED THAT SAID CHARTER RULE BE SUS-
PENDED, AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUC-
TION AND BE IN FULL FORCE FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE AND PUBLICATION, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE J DAY OF AUGUST, 1964 -
