W}iEREAS, INTERSTATE 1IG14WAY 37 IS BY COOPERATION OF THE
U141TED STATES BUREAU OF PUBLIC ROADS,AND THE STATE HIGHWAY' COMMISSION
BEINd.PLAHMED AND CONSTRUCTED FROM SAM ANTONIO TO CORPUS CHRISTI AND
AT CORPUS CHRISTI IS CONNECTED TO OTHER STATE HIGHWAYS IN THAT AREA;

WEP.EAS, UPON COMPLETION OF' SAID INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 37, THESE
AREAS WILL BE GREATLY aENEFPTTED BY THE (IMPROVED HIGHWAY ACCESS; AND -
WHEREAS, THERE IS to BE A HEMISFAIR HELD IN SAN ANTONIO IN
1968, WHICH tVENT WILL ATTRACT VAST CROWDS FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED
' STATES, MEXICO AND SOUTH AMERICA TO THIS AREA; AND
WHEREAS) THE EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER WORLD FAIRS HAS BEEN THAT
A GREAT'MANY PEOPLE VI$!T OTHER COMMUNITIES IN THE ENTIRE AREA; AND
WHEREAS, CORPUS - CHRISTI IS A SEASHORE AND TOURIST. AREA NEAR
SAN ANTONIO AND WiLI LXPERII<NCE GREATLY INCREASED VISITORS, CONVCNTIONS,
ETC.; DURING THE FAIR; AND
WHEREAS, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT A GREAT MANY PEOPLE WILL

SEASHORE RECREATION AREA AND THE NUMEROUS NEW RESORTS BEING BUILT IN -

• WHEREAS, THE COMPLETION OF SAID ROAD fAClLITIE$ PRIOR TO
190 HAKES IT IMPERATIVE THAT ACCELERATION OF TH6 PROGRAM AND CONSTRUC-
TION OF SAID ROAD FACILITIES BE IMMEDIATELY UNDERTAKEN9
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED-BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXASs
SECTION I. THAT THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT OF TEXAS A¢D
THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF PUBLIC ROApS BE IMMEDIATELY INFORMED OF THE
URGENCY FOR THE ACCELERATION OF THE PROGRAM AND CONSTRUCTION OF INTER-
STATE, HIGHWAY 37, EXTENDING FROM SAN ANTONIO TO CORPUS CHRISTI-, AND
SC URGED TO EXERT THE UTH03T EFFORTS TO COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION -OF

THIS IMPORTANT FACILITY PRIOR TO 1968. ,
SECTION $. THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION -13E IMMEDIATELY
FORWARDED TO $ACH OF IIAlb'GOVERNNENTAL QODIES AND TO SUCH OTHER OFFICIALS
AS ARE ENGAGED IN SAID PROJECT.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO -
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
