HomeMy WebLinkAbout07367 RES - 09/30/1964A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, IT HAS COME TO THE ATTENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL THAT THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT OF TEXAS IS CONTEMPLATING THE CHANG- ING OF DESIGNATION OF STATE HIGHWAY 9 TO COINCIDE WITH INTERSTATE 37 UPON THE COMPLETION OF SAID INTERSTATE 37; AND WHEREAS, THERE ARE MANY BUSINESSES NOW LOCATED ON THE PRESENT HIGHWAY 9 AS NOW DESIGNATED, ON LEOPARD STREET AND THE WESTWARD EXTENSION THEREOF, WHICH IS A CONTINUOUS STREET EXTENDING FROM BROADWAY IN THE DOWNTOWN DISTRICT TO CALALLEN; AND WHEREAS, THE CONVENIENCE OF THE DESIGNATION OF SAID LEOPARD STREET AS HIGHWAY 9 WOULD BE AN ADVANTAGE TO THE BUSINESS HOUSES LOCATED ALONG SAID STREET AND TO THE TRAVELLING PUBLIC WHO HAVE OCCASION TO DO BUSINESS WITH THOSE SO LOCATED ON SAID STREET; AND WHEREAS, IN MANY VICINITIES A BUSINESS DESIGNATION OF A HIGHWAY IS NOT INCONSISTENT WITH THE DESIGNATION OF SUCH HIGHWAY NUMBER ON THE INTERSTATE ROUTE: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT THE TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT BE ADVISED OF THE DESIRABILITY OF DESIGNATING LEOPARD STREET, WHICH IS NOW THE PRESENT ROUTE OF TEXAS STATE HIGHWAY 9, AS "HIGHWAY 9 BUSINESS ROUTE ". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE STATE MAINTENANCE OF SAID HIGHWAY 9 BUSINESS ROUTE BE CONTINUED FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE TRAVELLING PUBLIC AND THE BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS LOCATED THEREON.
