AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE .CITY MANAGER TO
ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT TO AMEND THE EXISTING_
EMPLOYEE GROUP LIFE AND HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY
SO AS TO INCREASE HOSPITAL OUTPATIENT BENEFITS
UNDER SAID POLICY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the existing Employee Group Life and Health Insurance,

Policy now existing between the City and National Bankers Life Insurance
Company of Dallas, Texas does not contain provisions for.adequate hospital

outpatient coverage of the insured employees and it is desired that certain

changes . be made so as to increase the benefits under said policy:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager, be and he is hereby authorized,
for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi, to enter into an agreement
to amend the existing Employee Group Life and Health Insurance Policy so
as to provide the following benefits for employees and their dependents:
'Benefits up to $50 shall be paid for hospital charges
for outpatient surgery or emergency treatment rendered
immediately following an accidental injury, even though
no charge for bed and board is made by the hospital."
SECTION 2. The urgency to complete the hereinabove described
changes to the existing Employee Group Life and Health Insurance Policy

creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring
the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council,
and the Mayor, having declared such emergency and necessity to exist,
having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance
take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED this the day of September, 1965.
