AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER, FOR
AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO
EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH SOUTH TEXAS CONSTRUCTION
COMPANY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SOUTH STAPLES
STREET IMPROVEMENTS, GOLLIHAR TO LEXINGTON; AND
ON GOLLIHAR ROAD STAPLES TO CADDO, PROJECT NO.
220-56-29; APPROPRIATING OUT OF NO. 220 STREET
BOND FUNDS THE-SUM OF $277,000.00, OF WHICH
AMOUNT $256;58�.0 IS FOR THE CONSTRUCTI N CON-
TRACT AND $20,416.96 IS FOR CONTINGENCIES,.INCLUD-
ING ENGINEERING, INSPECTION, LABORATORY TESTING,
LEGAL ADVERTISING AND EXPERT TESTIMONY; AND DECLAR-
ING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
' + CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THE CITY MANAGER BE, AND HE IS HEREBY, AUTHORIZED
AND DIRECTED, FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO EXECUTE
A CONTRACT WITH SOUTH TEXAS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
SOUTH STAPLES STREET IMPROVEMENTS, GOLLIHAR TO LEXINGTON; AND ON GOLLIHAR k`
ROAD, STAPLES TO CADDO, PROJECT No. 220- 56 -29, SUCH CONSTRUCTION TO CONSIST
OF STREET EXCAVATIONS, COMPACTED CALICHE BASE, HOT -MIX ASPHALTIC CONCRETE
SURFACE, 671 WIDE BACK TO BACK OF CURB, CURBS, GUTTERS, SIDEWALKS, DRIVE-
WAYS, STORM SEWERS AND APPURTENANCES ALL AS MORE FULLY SET OUT IN THE PLANS
AND SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY
SECRETARY, ALL OF WHICH ARE MADE A PART HEREOF BY REFERENCE, AND ACCORDING
TO THE BID OF SOUTH TEXAS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OPENED ON THE 26TH DAY OF
JANUARY, 1966, THE SAID BID OF SOUTH TEXAS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY BEING THE
LOWEST AND MOST ADVANTAGEOUS TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.
SECTION 2. THERE IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED OUT OF NO. 220 STREET
BOND FUND THE SUM OF $277,000.00, OF WHICH AMOUNT $256,583.04 IS FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AND $20,416.96 IS FOR CONTINGENCIES, INCLUDING
ENGINEERING, INSPECTION, LABORATORY TESTING, LEGAL ADVERTISING AND EXPERT
TESTIMONY.

SECTION 3. THE NECESSITY TO PROVIDE THE FUNDS HEREBY APPROPRIATED
AND TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE AFORESAID CONTRACT IN ORDER
TO CONSTRUCT STREET IMPROVEMENTS AS AUTHORIZED BY VOTERS IN 1956 BOND ELEC-
TION CREATES ANIEMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY-REQUIRING THE

SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE
PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF.ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS,OF THE CITY COUNCIL,
AND THE MAYOR,,HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY EXIST,
HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED AND THAT THIS ORDI-
NANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT
AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORD-
INGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE DAY OF FEBRUARY, 1966.

THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; 11 THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO-
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
