A RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING THE POPULATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS, AS BEING 2014,830 PERSONS AS OF
JANUARY 1, 1966; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, SURVEY HAS BEEN MADE BY THE CITY ZONING AND PLANNING
DEPARTMENT, BASED ON DATA FURNISHED BY THE UTILITY DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, DATA FURNISHED BY CENTRAL POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY,
ESTIMATES CHECKED STATISTICALLY BY PROCEDURES SUGGESTED BY THE BUREAU OF
THE CENSUS, AND BY GRAPHICAL PROJECTION OF THE ZONING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT
OF THE CITY, TO DETERMINE THE POPULATION WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI AS OF JANUARY 1, 1966; AND
WHEREAS, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY SAID SURVEYS THAT SAID POPULA-
TION IS 201+,850 PERSONS; AND
WHEREAS, IT IS PROPER AND NECESSARY TO RECOGNIZE THE RESULTS OF
SAID SURVEYS AS AN OFFICIAL DETERMINATION OF SAID POPULATION AS OF SAID
DATE OF JANUARY 1, 1966:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THE OFFICIAL POPULATION WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AS OF JANUARY 1, 1966 IS 2O4,850 PERSONS,
AND THAT DUE NOTICE OF THIS DETERMINATION BE GIVEN TO THE PROPER BODIES,
INCLUDING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT OF THE STATE OF TEXAS, FOR THEIR
INFORMATION AND USE, BY THE CITY SECRETARY.
SECTION 2. THE NECESSITY OF IMMEDIATELY MAKING DUE RECOGNITION
OF THE DETERMINATION OF THE POPULATION WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI AS OF JANUARY 1, 1966, CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN
IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE
THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS
INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE
SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT
SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER
RULE BE SUSPENDED, AND THAT THIS RESOLUTION BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE
OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM
AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY 50 SOLVED.
PASSED AND APPROVED THIS THE DAY OF JUNE, 1966.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO-
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
