A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, A PLAN FOR THE PROTECTION, CONSERVATION, DEVELOPMENT,
REDISTRIBUTION AND ADMINISTRATION OF WATER RESOURCES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS
HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD; AND
WHEREAS, THE STUDY OF SUCH PLAN, INCLUDING THE TEXAS WATER PROJECT
FOR THE REDISTRIBUTION OF WATER RESOURCES WITHIN THE STATE OF TEXAS, DIS-
CLOSES THAT THE SAID PLAN IS A FAIR AND REASONABLE PROPOSAL TO UTILIZE THE
WATER RESOURCES OF TEXAS SO AS TO BEST MEET THE WATER NEEDS THROUGHOUT THE
STATE FOR ALL PURPOSES FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIMES AND

WHEREAS, THE TEXAS WATER PLAN AND THE TEXAS WATER PROJECT WILL
BE OF GREAT BENEFIT FOR THE MUNICIPAL AND INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT OF TEXAS,
AS WELL AS PROVIDE A SOURCE OF IRRIGATION WATER AND PROVIDE FOR SUCH

SUPERVISION OF WATER USE AS TO INSURE AS BROAD A USE OF WATER AS POSSIBLE,

INCLUDING THE SERVING OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF WILDLIFE AND PROVIDING RECRE-
ATIONAL FACILITIES, AND INCLUDING FLOOD CONTROL STORAGES AND
WHEREAS, A STUDY OF SAID TEXAS•WATER PLAN AND TEXAS WATER PROJECT
ESTABLISHES THAT THE PROPOSED PROJECTS WILL OBVIOUSLY PROVIDE A GREAT MANY
BENEFITS TO THE PEOPLE OF TEXAS, INCLUDING THE COASTAL BEND AND RIO GRANDE'�+'
VALLEY AREAS; AND +.%.
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI HAS NEGOTIATED WITH VARIOUS
AGENCIES AND CONSUMERS AND DISTRIBUTORS OF WATER IN THE GULF COAST AREA,
AND IS NOW SUPPLYING WATER UNDER CONTRACTS TO MANY INDUSTRIES, TO THE SAN
PATRIC10 WATER DISTRICT, AND THE ALICE WATER AUTHORITY AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI IS INTERESTED IN SECURING AN
ADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY FOR ALL THE WATER USERS IN THIS AREA, AT THE LOWEST
COST POSSIBLE, AND UNDER SUCH PLANS AS WILL BE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS TO THE
CITIZENS AND TO THE FUTURE FINANCIAL AND DEBT STRUCTURES OF THE LOCAL
GOVERNMENTAL BODIES:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, IN REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED, CONCURS WITH AND
RECOMMENDS THE SUPPORT OF THE TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT PLAN AND THE TEXAS

WATER PROJECT AS PROPOSED BY THE TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD. BE IT
FURTHER RESOLVED THAT FURTHER STUDY BE CONDUCTED TO ACCELERATE THE PRO- J
POSED WATER RESERVOIRS, PARTICULARLY INCLUDING-THE PROPOSED CHOKE CANYON
RESERVOIR PROJECT, IF THIS SITE BE SELECTED, SO AS TO COMPLETE CONSTRUC-
TION OF SAID PROJECT BY 1975. '
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI PLEDGES
ITS SUPPORT TO THE CARRYING OUT OF THE TEXAS WATER PLAN AND TEXAS WATER
PROJECT AND RECOMMENDS THE SUPPORT OF THE SAME BY ALL CITIZENS OF THIS
COMMUNITY. ,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE SUB-
" MITTED AT THE APPROPRIATE HEARING ON THIS PLAN CONDUCTED BY THE TEXAS WATER
DEVELOPMENT BOARD. ,
PASSED AND APPROVED THIS THE 10TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1966.

FOR THE REASONS SET FORTH IN THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE OF THE FORE-
GOING ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCILS 1, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO -
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
