AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8127, ENTITLED "ADOPTING AND
PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE COMPENSATION
PLAN FOR ALL POSITIONS IN THE CITY SERVICE; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; CONTAINING A
SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE ",
BY AMENDING SECTION 5, BY ADDING A NEW SUBSECTION,
DESIGNATED AS SUBSECTION (E), ENTITLED "SPECIALIST PAY
IN INSPECTION DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS "j
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT ORDINANCE NO. 8127, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL ON AUGUST 3, 1966, ENTITLED "ADOPTING AND PROVIDING FOR THE
ADMINISTRATION OF THE COMPENSATION PLAN FOR ALL POSITIONS IN THE CITY
SERVICE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; CONTAINING A SAVINGS
" CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE", BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY
AMENDED BY ADDING TO SECTION 5 OF SAID ORDINANCE NO. 8127 A NEW SUBSECTION,
DESIGNATED AS SUBSECTION (E), ENTITLED "SPECIALIST PAY IN INSPECTION
DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS ", AND READING AS FOLLOWS:
"(E) SPECIALIST PAY IN INSPECTION DIVISION OF THE DEPART-
MENT OF PUBLIC WORKS.
WHEN ASSIGNED TO CERTAIN SPECIAL DUTIES AS IN THIS PARAGRAPH
PROVIDED, EMPLOYEES IN THE INSPECTION DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
WORKS SHALL BE PAID ACCORDING TO THE SCHEDULE SET FORTH IN THIS PARAGRAPH.
UPON THE TERMINATION OF SUCH SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD
APPROVED BY THE CITY MANAGER, THE ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION SHALL BE DISCON-
TINUED AND THE BASIC SALARY POSITION SHALL THEREAFTER APPLY:
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT MONTHLY COMPENSATION
ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR $575
SECTION 2. IF FOR ANY REASON ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUBDIVISION,
CLAUSE, PHRASE, OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE HELD INVALID, IT
SHALL NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISIONS OF THIS OR ANY OTHER ORDINANCE OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO WHICH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATE.
SECTION 3. THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE FROM AND AFTER
APRIL I, 1967.
SECTION 4. THE FACT THAT THERE EXISTS A CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF
QUALIFIED ELECTRICAL INSPECTORS WITHIN THE EMPLOY OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI AND THE FURTHER FACT THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN STANDARDS THAT MUST
BE MAINTAINED IN CONNECTION WITH ELECTRICAL INSPECTION TO ADEQUATELY PROTECT
THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC
NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE
OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND
THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR, HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH EMERGENCY AND
NECESSITY EXIST, HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED AND
THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND
TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT
IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE of �C!'L DAY OF MARCH, 1967.

THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE, HEREBY REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE
OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDINANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRO -
DUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
