HomeMy WebLinkAbout08407 ORD - 04/05/19673 -30 -67 (lv) AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE CORPUS CHRISTI MUSEUM ADVISORY BOARD, SETTING FORTH THE COMPOSITION OF ITS MEMBERS, DEFINING ITS FIELD OF ACTIVITY AND SETTING FORTH RELATED MATTERS; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, a group of public - spirited citizens has established, developed, and supported a community museum known as the Corpus Christi Museum; and WHEREAS, the operation of such an institution as the Corpus Christi Museum requires the cooperation of the public educational agencies within the City and the governing body of the City as well as the continuing advice, financial support, and leadership of public - spirited private citizens; and WHEREAS, such cooperation can best be provided by the creation of an advisory board composed of representatives of these interested groups. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. There is hereby created the Corpus Christi Museum Advisory Board which shall consist of nine (9) members who shall serve without compensation, and who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council, as follows: three from nominations submitted by the Corpus Christi Independent School District, acting through its Board of Trustees; three by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council and three from nominations submitted by the Board of Directors of the non - profit Corpus Christi Museum Corporation. Within each group of those first appointed, their terms shall run for one, two and three years, as determined by lot. Upon the occurrence of any vacancy, it shall be filled for the unexpired term by nomination by the same agency as nominated the outgoing member. At the expira- tion of each term, the replacement shall be furnished by nomination from each agency which nominated the respective outgoing member. Thereafter all terms shall be for a term of three (3) years. The Board shall adopt its own rules of procedure for the conduct of its business and shall elect its own Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary. SECTION 2. The Board shall hold regular meetings at least once each month and such special meetings as may be called by the Chairman with �- 3 -30 -67 (1v) • notice to all members. The Board shall act as an adviser to the Museum Department of the City and to the City Council in matters pertaining to the operation, support, and development of the Corpus Christi Museum. SECTION 3. The necessity for providing advisory assistance to the newly created Museum Department of the City of Corpus Christi and to the City Council concerning matters pertaining to the Corpus Christi Museum creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the date of Nye%, 1967.
