WHEREAS, REPRESENTATIVE JOHN TRAEGER HAS FOR MANY YEARS BEEN
AN ADVOCATE OF STRONG LOCAL SELF - GOVERNMENT; AND
WHEREAS, AMONG OTHER THINGS, IN THE PRESENT SESSION OF THE STATE
LEGISLATURE, REPRESENTATIVE JOHN TRAEGER SPONSORED AND SUPPORTED H.B. 207,
WHICH PERMITTED VOTERS IN CITIES TO VOTE FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE CITY A SALES
TAX TO SUPPORT THE HEAVY BURDEN OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PROGRAM OF PUBLIC
SERVICE AT THE CITY GOVERNMENT LEVEL; AND
WHEREAS, REPRESENTATIVE JOHN TRAEGER HAS ALWAYS STOOD READY TO
BACK LEGISLATION FAVORABLE TO LOCAL SELF - GOVERNMENT AND OPPOSE PROPOSED
LEGISLATION DETRIMENTAL TO HOME RULE CITIES AND LOCAL SELF - GOVERNMENT
INTERESTS AND FOR SUCH ACTIVITY DESERVES THE APPRECIATION OF ALL TEXANS;
AND
WHEREAS, IN A SMALL MEASURE RECOGNITION WILL BE GIVEN THE
HONORABLE JOHN TRAEGER, STATE REPRESENTATIVE, ON MAY 18, 1967:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT THIS COUNCIL AS THE ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES
OF THE CITIZENS OF CORPUS CHRISTI EXPRESSES ITS APPRECIATION FOR THE SER-
VICES OF THE HONORABLE JOHN TRAEGER AS REPRESENTATIVE IN THE TEXAS
LEGISLATURE; AND
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT ALL CITIZENS JOIN IN THE CELEBRATION
OF JOHN TRAEGER DAY ON MAY 18, 1967, AND COMMUNICATE THEIR EXPRESSION OF
GRATITUDE TO SAID DISTINGUISHED STATESMAN; AND
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE FOR-
WARDED TO THE HONORABLE JOHN TRAEGER INFORMING HIM OFTHIS EXPRESSION OF
APPRECIATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI r)�. HIS SERVICES IN THEIR
BEHALF.
