HomeMy WebLinkAbout08553 ORD - 08/02/1967AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 18 -21 AND 18 -22 OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, 1958, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING THE CHARGES FOR SERVICE FOR GARBAGE COLLECTION TO PROVIDE FOR AN INCREASE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: I SECTION 1. That Section 18 -21 of the Corpus Christi City Code, 1958, be amended to hereafter read as follows: r "Section 18 -21. Charges for Collections from Residential Property. That Section 18 -22 of the Corpus Christi City Code, 1958, be amended to hereafter read as follows: "Section 18 -22. Charges for service to business and commercial institutions etc. genera ll requirements as to barges by superintendent. For the service of collection and disposal of garbage and trash, business and commercial institutions and all other places in the city requiring service, except as noted in section 18 -21 of this Code, shall be charged at a minimum rate of four dollars per month for three days per week pick -up or eight dollars per month for six days per week pick -up in areas designed for such service. All charges above the minimum rates as determined by the Superintendent of the Sanitation Division of the Department of Public Works shall be reasonable and shall be determined by the type and amount of refuse, the location of the re- fuse and the number of pick -ups per week that are necessary to service and 8553 maintain a sanitary condition and not exceeding an amount proportional to the minimum charges provided in this article. For the service and disposal only of garbage and trash, all occupied business and commercial institutions and all other places in the city, except as noted in section 18 -21 of this Code, shall be charged at a minimum rate of fifty ents lght Y per month or one - eighth the amount of the charge which the Superin- tendent of the Sanitation Division of the Department of Public Works shall determine would be the proper and equitable charge for both collection and disposals if city services were used, based on the type and amount of refuse. A direct charge shall be made at the time the service is required for the pick -up and disposal of large dead animals in accordance with the following schedule: Horses, mules, donkeys, or cattle ...... $10.00 each Hogs, sheep, or goats .................. 5.00 each" SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be effective with the billing of Cycle One on or about August 1, 1967. SECTION 4. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, or provision of this Ordinance shall be held invalid, it shall not affect any valid provision of this or any other ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi to which these rules and regulations relate. SECTION 5. The necessity to revise the charges as set forth in Sections 'l and 2 hereinabove, creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect as hereinabove provided and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the da August, 19 a . \ MAYOR pro -Tem THE CITY OF ORP HRISTI, TEXAS ATTEST: l City ecretary APPROVED AS T EGAL FORM T144HE DAY OF AF'IGUST, 1967.
