ORDINANCE 8127 PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
ON AUGUST 3, 1966 BY AMENDING SECTION 1 SUBSECTIONS (a)
AND (b) THEREOF BY SUBSTITUTING NEW SUBSECTIONS AND
EXHIBITS; BY AMENDING•SECTION 1 SUBSECTION (h) OF SAID
ORDINANCE 8127 AS AMENDED BY DELETING SAID SUBSECTION
(h); BY AMENDING SECTION 3 SUBSECTION (a) OF SAID
ORDINANCE 8127 BY ADOPTING A NEW SUBSECTION (a); BY
AMENDING SECTION 5 SUBSECTION (c) OF SAID ORDINANCE 8127
BY ADOPTING A NEW SUBSECTION (c); PROVIDING A SEVERANCE
CLAUSE; BROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:.. .
SECTION 1. That Section ";13 Subsections (a) and (b) of said Ordinance
No. 8127, be, and the same is hereby amended to hereafter read as follows:
SECTION 1. DEFINITION AND ADOPTION OF COMPENSATION PLAN
(a) Salary Schedules. The pay of City employees shall be on the basis
of appropriate salary schedules prescribed herein for the respective grades
Of positions in the classified service as established by the Civil Service
Board and for the respective unclassified positions as listed herein. Each
salary schedule shall consist of an entrance rate, intermediate rates, merit
rates, and two longevity rates. The schedule of salaries as shown in the
following subsection shall comprise the compensation plan. A separate salary
schedule is shown for positions included in the Firefighting and Police
Series of the Public Safety Group and positions in the Transit Department.

b) Adoption of Compensation Plan. The Compensation plan is hereby
adopted according to the following and as amended from time to time, except
that the compensation ordinance in effect during 1965 -66 will remain in
effect for employees of the Health and Welfare Fund.

SECTION 2. That Section 1, Subsection (h) of said Ordinance No. 8127, :
as amended, be, and is hereby deleted.
SECTION 3. That Section 3, Subsection (a), of said Ordinance No. 8127,
be, and is hereby amended to hereafter read as follows:
"(a) In order to bring all salary rates into conformity with those
provided in the Compensation Plan, or to correct errors in classification, the following
rules shall be effective in fixing the rates of pay of incumbents of all classified
positions (except positions in classes of the Police and Fire series) at the time of
adoption of the Compensation Plan or any amendment thereto."
SECTION 4._ That Section 5, Subsection (c), of said Ordinance No. 8127,
be, and is hereby amended to hereafter read as follows:
"(c) Compensation Adjustments for Extended Work Weeks. In those
*positions in the labor and trades group in classes of grade 22 or below where compensation
is based on a work schedule of other than 40 hours per week, employees required to
regularly and continuously work on a schedule of 44 or 48 hours per week shall be paid on
an hourly rate equal to the regular hourly rate for that position, grade, and step for a
regular 40 hour workweek. Overtime will be computed only for hours worked over the
scheduled workweek."
SECTION 5. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid, it shall not affect
any valid provisions of this or any other ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi to which
these rules and regulations relate.
SECTION 6. The effective date of the above changes shall be August 1,
1967.

SECTION 7. The fact that there is an immediate need to create certain
-new positions and a need to maintain an efficient administration of City affairs creates a
public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter Rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally in the date of its
introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings
of the City Council, and the Mayor, having requested the suspension of said Charter Rules,
and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such
ordinance take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS
ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED.
