Mr. Herbert W. Whitney, City Manager

Attn: Mr. C. E. McLeroy
SUBJECT: Speed Zoning on I.H. 37
Dear Mr. Whitney:
At it's meeting on December 16, 1967, the State Highway Commission
passed'Minute No. 60251 which established the 65 m.p.h. speed limit
on I.H. 37 from Station 59 +50 westerly to Station 259 +00 within the
Corpus Christi city limits.
This action was taken since state law does not authorize cities to es-
tablish speed limits higher than 60 m.p.h. This action by the Commission
legalizes the speed limit shown on the strip map transmitted in our letter
of'October 11, 1967, and covered by City Ordinance No. 8641, dated October
25, 1967.
You may want to discuss this portion of the City Ordinance with your legal
department to be sure that all of the speed limits contained in it are
legal.
Sincerely,
Travis A. Long
