HomeMy WebLinkAbout08645 ORD - 10/25/1967} IMS:HR: 10 -25 -67 S ' AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BUILDING CODE, ORDINANCE NO. 7797, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING CHAPTER XIII, SECTION 1303, SUBSECTION 1303.4, BY ADDING A NEW PARAGRAPH DESIG- NATED AS PARAGRAPH (s); AND BY ADDING A NEW CHAPTER, CHAPTER XXIX, REGARDING CONSTRUCTION BELOW 12 FEET ELEVATION; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. - BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. THAT THE BUILDING CODE, ORDINANCE NO. 7797, AS AMENDED, BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED BY AMENDING CHAPTER XIII, SECTION 1303, , SUBSECTION 1303.4, BY ADDING THERETO A NEW PARAGRAPH, DESIGNATED AS t PARAGRAPH (D), READING AS FOLLOWS: °(D) ALL WOOD PILINGS USED TO SUPPORT STRUCTURES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM TIP DIAMETER OF TEN INCHES (10 ") WITH A MINIMUM OF 12 POUNDS PER CUBIC FOOT OF APPROVED TREATMENT AND THE TOP OF THE PILINGS SHALL BE NOTCHED TO RECEIVE SILLS. ALL FASTENERS USED TO SECURE SILLS TO PILINGS SHALL BE AT LEAST 5/a' GALVANIZED BOLTS WITH GALVANIZED OGEE WASHERS TO SUPPLE- MENT EFFECTIVE NAILING, ALL NAILS USED TO SECURE SILLS TO PILINGS SHALL BE 20D OR LARGER NAILS. ALL PILINGS USED TO , ELEVATE STRUCTURES SHALL BE DRIVEN OR PLACED A MINIMUM OF EIGHT FEET (H') BELOW NATURAL GRADE AND ALL WOOD PILINGS SHALL BE EFFECTIVELY KNEE- BRACED.'f SECTION 2. THAT THE BUILDING CODE, ORDINANCE NO. 7797, AS AMENDED, BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED BY ADDING THE FOLLOWING CHAPTER AS CHAPTER XXIX: "CHAPTER XXIX. ALL BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM FLOOR ELEVATION OF SEVEN FEET (T) ABOVE MEAN TIDE LEVEL AS ESTABLISHED BY THE U. S. COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY BENCH MARK DATUM. IN ADDITION, ALL ONE AND TWO FAMILY DWELLINGS CONSTRUCTED IN THE SECOND FIRE DISTRICT WHOSE FLOOR ELEVATION IS LESS THAN TWELVE FEET (121) ELEVATION SHALL MEET THE REQUIRE- MENTS OF THE FIRST FIRE DISTRICT. ALL STRUCTURES IN THE FIRST �6 ��1 I AND SECOND FIRE DISTRICT WITH THE MAIN FLOOR LEVEL BELOW TWELVE FEET (121) ELEVATION SHALL BE DESIGNED SO AS TO MINIMIZE DAMAGE FROM WIND AND RISING WATER AND SAFEGUARD UTILITIES, AND ALL SUCH STRUCTURES, OTHER THAN ONE AND TWO FAMILY DWELLINGS, SHALL BE APPROVED BY AN ARCHITECT OR ENGINEER AND THE BUILDING OFFICIAL. STORE FRONT DISPLAY OR OTHER WINDOWS LARGER THAN SIX SQUARE FEET IN AREA IN SUCH STRUCTURES IN THE FIRST AND SECOND FIRE DISTRICT WHICH ARE NOT PROTECTED BY A SEAWALL OF AT LEAST 12' ELEVATION, MUST BE PROTECTED BY A REMOVABLE STORM PROTECTION DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE ACTION OF WIND AND RISING WATER, READILY INSTALLABLE, AND APPROVED BY THE BUILDING OFFICIAL." SECTION 3. IF FOR ANY REASON ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUBDIVISION, CLAUSE, PHRASE OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE INVALID, IT SHALL NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISIONS OF THIS OR ANY OTHER ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO WHICH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATE. SECTION 4. PUBLICATION SHALL BE MADE ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, AFTER FINAL PASSAGE, WHICH PUBLICA- TION SHALL CONTAIN THE CAPTION STATING IN SUBSTANCE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE. SECTION 5.
