HomeMy WebLinkAbout08696 RES - 12/20/1967A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, OVER A PERIOD OF MANY YEARS, THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI HAS COOPERATED WITH THE TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT AND THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF ROADS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHWAYS IN THIS COMMUNITY AND THE STATE OF TEXAS; AND WHEREAS, PRESENT FEDERAL HIGHWAY PLAN FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SYSTEM OF HIGHWAYS WILL BE COMPLETED IN 1972; AND WHEREAS, THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE HIGHWAY OFFICIALS, AFTER INTENSE INVESTIGATION AND STUDY, PRESENTED TO THE CONGRESS, AT A HEARING BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, NINETIETH CONGRESS, JUNE 7, 1967, A RECOMMENDED PLAN FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE HIGHWAY PROGRAM AFTER 1972; AND WHEREAS, THE URGENCY FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION IN REGARD TO CONTINUATION OF A WELL- PLANNED AND PROMPTLY EXECUTED HIGHWAY PLAN IS RECOGNIZED BY THE OFFICIALS OF THIS CITY: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: THAT THE CONGRESS BE URGED TO ENACT AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE MOMENT LEGISLATION RECOMMENDED BY THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE HIGHWAY OFFICIALS AS PRESENTED TO THE CONGRESS AT A HEARING BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, NINETIETH CONGRESS, JUNE 7, 1967, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY GUIDELINES FOR FUTURE HIGHWAY PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE AND FOR THE SUPPLEMENTATION OF THE NATIONAL SYSTEM OF INTERSTATE AND DEFENSE HIGHWAYS BEYOND THE CUR- RENTLY AUTHORIZED PROGRAM TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE NATION; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION BE PRESENTED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, TO OUR CONGRESSMAN, THE HONORABLE JOHN A. YOUNG, TO THE SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATOR AND TO OUR STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION. PASSED AND APPROVED THIS THE 20TH DAY OF DECEMBER, 1967.
