AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8463, PASSED AND APPROVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL ON MAY 24, 1967, BY AMENDING THE
SOUTHERN STANDARD HOUSING CODE, 1965 EDITION, ADOPTED
IN SAID ORDINANCE NO. 8463, BY AMENDING SECTION 301.2
OF SAID HOUSING CODE SO AS TO ELIMINATE THE REFERENCE
TO CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY; AMENDING SECTION 06 BY
DELETING SUBSECTIONS 306.1, 306.2, 306.3, 306.4 AND
306.5; AMENDING SECTION 401.4 SO AS TO STATE THE
MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR SPACE FOR ROOMING HOUSES; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT ORDINANCE No. 8463, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL ON THIRD AND FINAL READING ON MAY 24, 1967, BE AND THE SAME
I5 HEREBY AMENDED BY AMENDING SECTION 301.2 OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD HOUSING
CODE, 1965 EDITION, ADOPTED IN SAID ORDINANCE NO. 8463, SAID SECTION 301.2
TO HEREAFTER READ AS FOLLOWS:
"SECTION 301.2. No PERSON SHALL OCCUPY AS OWNER- OCCUPANT OR
LET TO ANOTHER FOR OCCUPANCY, ANY VACANT DWELLING, DWELLING
UNIT, APARTMENT OR ANY SPACE DESIGNED OR INTENDED TO BE USED
FOR THE PURPOSE OF LIVING, SLEEPING, COOKING, OR EATING
THEREIN WHICH DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF
THIS CODE."
SECTION 2. THAT SECTION 306 OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD HOUSING
CODE, 1965 EDITION, ADOPTED IN ORDINANCE No. 8463, BE AND THE SAME IS
HEREBY AMENDED BY DELETING SUBSECTIONS 306.1, 306.2, 306.3, 306.4, AND
306.5.
SECTION 3. THAT SUBSECTION 401.4 OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD
HOUSING CODE, 1965 EDITION, ADOPTED IN ORDINANCE No. 8463, BE AND THE
SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED TO HEREAFTER READ AS FOLLOWS:
"SUBSECTION 401.4. ANY RESIDENTIAL OCCUPANCY USED OR CONTINUED
TO BE USED AS A ROOMING HOUSE SHALL HAVE THE MINIMUM STANDARDS
FOR SPACE AS FOLLOWS:
A. EVERY ROOM OCCUPIED FOR SLEEPING PURPOSES BY ONE
OCCUPANT SHALL CONTAIN AT LEAST 70 SQUARE FEET OF
FLOOR SPACE;

B. EVERY ROOM OCCUPIED FOR SLEEPING PURPOSES BY MORE
THAN ONE OCCUPANT SHALL CONTAIN AT LEAST 50 SQUARE
FEET OF FLOOR SPACE FOR EACH OCCUPANT 12 YEARS OF
AGE AND OVER, AND AT LEAST 35 SQUARE FEET OF AREA
FOR EACH OCCUPANT UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE.
SECTION 4. PUBLICATION SHALL BE MADE ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL
PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL CONTAIN
THE CAPTION STATING IN SUBSTANCE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE.
SECTION 5. THE NECESSITY FOR CREATING MORE REALISTIC STANDARDS
FOR OCCUPANCY CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY
REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION
SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDI-
NANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND
NECESSITY EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED
AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION
AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY 50 ORDAINED, THIS THE /0 DAY OF
