AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8653, DATED NOVEMBER 1, 1967,
WHICH AMENDED CHAPTER XIII OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARDS
BUILDING CODE, 1965 EDITION, BY CHANGING SECTION 1305
(5) SO AS TO WITHSTAND A TOTAL LIVE LOAD OF 50 POUNDS
PER SQUARE FOOT, AND CHANGING SECTION 1305 (10) SO AS
TO PROVIDE THAT WOODEN DECKING MAY NOT EXCEED 2" THICK-
NESS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH;
PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT ORDINANCE No. 8653, DATED NOVEMBER 1, 1967,
WHICH AMENDED CHAPTER XIII OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1965
EDITION, BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED BY AMENDING SECTION 1305 (5)
AND SECTION 1305 (0, SAID SUBSECTIONS TO HEREAFTER READ AS FOLLOWS:
"SECTION 1305
(5) ALL PIERS SHALL BE DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND A TOTAL LIVE
LOAD OF 50 POUNDS PER SQUARE FOOT."
"SECTION 1305
(10) WOODEN DECKING MAY NOT EXCEED 2" THICKNESS AND SHALL
BE NAILED TO ITS SUPPORTING MEMBER IN SUCH A MANNER
TO ALLOW DECKING TO BE DISPLACED BY WAVE ACTION."
SECTION 2. THAT ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS THEREOF IN CONFLICT
WITH THIS ORDINANCE ARE HEREBY EXPRESSLY REPEALED.
SECTION 3. IF FOR ANY REASON ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUBDIVISION,
CLAUSE, PHRASE OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE HELD INVALID, IT
SHALL NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISIONS OF THIS OR ANY OTHER ORDINANCE OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO WHICH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATE.
SECTION 4. PUBLICATION SHALL BE MADE ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL
PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL CONTAIN
THE CAPTION STATING IN SUBSTANCE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE.

SECTION 5. THE NECESSITY TO IMMEDIATELY AMEND THE BUILDING CODE
AS HEREINABOVE SET FORTH CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC
NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT
SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE
CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO
EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS
ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT
AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY
SO ORDAINED, THIS THE _0 DAY OF JULY, 1968.

BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; 11 THEREFORE,
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER PULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
