AN ORDINANCE
CORRECTING AND AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8996 ENACTED ON
THE 21ST DAY OF AUGUST, 1968, CLOSING THE HEARING ON
UP RIVER ROAD IMPROVEMENTS, FROM LEOPARD STREET TO I.H.
37, AND LEVYING THE ASSESSMENTS FOR SAID IMPROVEMENTS,
BY AMENDING SECTION 3 THEREOF; PROVIDING THAT ALL OTHER
PROVISIONS OF SAID ORDINANCE REMAIN IN FULL FORCE AND
EFFECT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS,
ON AUGUST 21, 1968, ENACTED ITS ORDINANCE No. 8996, BY WHICH THERE WERE
LEVIED SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS AGAINST PROPERTIES ABUTTING ON THE HEREINAFTER
DEFINED AND DESCRIBED PORTIONS OF UPRIVER ROAD WITHIN SAID CITY; AND
WHEREAS, IT IS THE DESIRE AND INTENTION OF SAID CITY COUNCIL TO
CORRECT, AMEND AND CHANGE SECTION 3 OF SAID ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF
CORRECTING CERTAIN IRREGULARITIES, INFORMALITIES AND DISCREPANCIES OF CER-
TAIN SAID ABUTTING PROPERTIES AND THE ASSESSMENTS LEVIED THEREBY AND SAID
OTHER PARTICULARS APPEARING IN SAID SECTION 3 OF ORDINANCE 8996:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT SAID ORDINANCE NO. 8996, ENACTED ON THE 21ST DAY
OF AUGUST, 1968, BE, AND THE SAME IS HEREBY, CORRECTED, AMENDED AND CHANGED
SO THAT THE HEREINAFTER PROPERTY OWNERS' ASSESSMENT ROLL, AS CONTAINED IN

SECTION 2. THAT ALL PROVISIONS OF SAID ORDINANCE SHALL BE AND
REMAIN IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT, UNCHANGED AS HERETOFORE ENACTED EXCEPT
'INSOFAR AS THE SAME ARE CORRECTED AND AMENDED HEREBY.
SECTION 3. THE NECESSITY FOR AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8996, IN
ORDER TO CORRECT AND ADJUST CERTAIN ASSESSMENTS AGAINST THE PROPERTIES AND
PROPERTY OWNERS AS HEREINABOVE SET FORTH CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN
IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE
THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUC-
TION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL
MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED SUCH PUBLIC
EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY TO EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED
THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY
ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND
EFFECT

NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
