AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER, FOR AND ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO EXECUTE A CON-
TRACT WITH KING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF THE BELTON, MAC ARTHUR, SARITA, HIAWATHA, AND RODD
FIELD ROAD IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO. 22o -67 -92.2;
APPROPRIATING OUT OF NO. 220 STREET BOND FUND THE SUM
OF $167,000, OF WHICH AMOUNT $159,365.35 IS FOR THE CON-
STRUCTION CONTRACT, AND $7,634.65 IS FOR CONTINGENCIES
AND INCIDENTAL EXPENSES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. THAT THE CITY MANAGER BE, AND HE IS HEREBY, AUTHORIZED
AND DIRECTED, FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO EXECUTE
A CONTRACT WITH KING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE BELTON,-
MACARTHUR, SARITA, HIAWATHA, AND RODD FIELD ROAD IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT
N0. 220 -67 -92.2, SAID CONSTRUCTION TO CONSIST OF EXCAVATION, CALICHE BASE,
HOT MIX ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SURFACE, STORM SEWER AND APPURTENANCES FOR A
STREET WIDTH OF 31 FEET BACK TO BACK OF CURB, EXCEPT BELTON, WHICH WILL BE
45 FEET ON ACCOUNT OF SCHOOL TRAFFIC, SAID CONSTRUCTION BEING MORE FULLY
SET OUT IN THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS ON FILE IN
THE OFFICE OF THE CITY SECRETARY, ALL OF WHICH ARE MADE A PART HEREOF BY
REFERENCE, AND ACCORDING TO THE BID OF KING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OPENED ON
THE 9TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 1968, THE SAID BID OF KING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY
BEING THE LOWEST AND MOST ADVANTAGEOUS TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.
SECTION 2. THERE IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED OUT OF N0. 220 STREET
BOND FUND THE SUM OF $167,000, OF WHICH AMOUNT $159,365.35 IS FOR THE CON-
STRUCTION CONTRACT, AND $7,634.65 IS FOR CONTINGENCIES AND INCIDENTAL
EXPENSES.
SECTION 3. THE NECESSITY TO AUTHORIZE THE EXECUTION OF THE
AFORESAID CONTRACT AND THE APPROPRIATION OF THE NECESSARY FUNDS TO IMPROVE
STREETS FOR A MODERN TRAFFIC FACILITY AND AS REQUESTED BY PROPERTY OWNERS
CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE
SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE
PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL,

AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY EXIST AND
HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE
IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO
ORDAINED, THIS THE AY OF OCTOBER, 1968.

ORDINANCE, A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND IMPERATIVE NECESSITY EXIST FOR THE SUSPEN-
SION OF THE CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE,
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
