AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3658, AS AMENDED, BY ESTABLISHING THE
POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS OF-REFUSE COLLECTOR, TRUCK DRIVER,
AND CREWMAN, BY AMENDING SECTION 4, THEREOF; AMENDING ORDINANCE
NO. 8127, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 1, SUBSECTION (G),
TO PROVIDE A GUARANTEED 44 HOUR WORK WEEK WITH HOURS OVER 40
PAID ON A TIME AND ONE -HALF BASIS FOR CERTAIN POSITIONS IN
THE SANITATION DIVISION; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE, PRO-
VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 4, of said Ordinance No. 3658, As AMENDED, BE AND
the same is hereby amended by establishing the following classifications:
JOB CODE CLASS TITLE CLASS GRADE
839 Refuse Collector 7
841 Crewman • 7
840 Truck Driver 9
SECTION 2. That Section 1, Subsection (g) of said Ordinance No.
8127, be, and the same is hereby amended to hereafter read as follows:
"(G) REFUSE COLLECTORS, EQUIPMENT OPERATORS AND TRUCK DRIVERS REQUIRED
TO WORK SIX DAYS PER WEEK ON GARBAGE OR BRUSH COLLECTION ON A REGULAR BASIS
SHALL BE COMPENSATED FOR A MINIMUM OF 44 HOURS WITH THE HOURS OVER 40 BEING
PAID ON A TIME AND CNE -HALF BASIS."
SECTION 3. If, for any reason, any section, paragraph, sub-
division, clause, phrase, or provision of this ordinance shall be held in-
valid, it shall not affect any valid provision of this or any other
ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi to which these rules and regu-
lations relate.
SECTION 4. The effective date of the above changes shall be
June 4, 1969.
SECTION 5. The fact that there is an immediate need to create certain
new positions and a need to maintain an efficient administration of City affairs
creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the
suspension of the Charter Rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution
shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor,
having requested the suspension of said Charter Rules, and that this ordinance

BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE
TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE,

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
