WHEREAS, Morris L. Lichtenstein, Sr., the third generation member of a
pioneer merchant family, was called to his eternal reward March 11, 1970; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Lichtenstein, one of the City's foremost civic leaders,
worked tirelessly for many years in virtually all facets of civic activities, to help
make Corpus Christi the City it is today. He was a great man, he loved his City
and his fellowman, he gave generously of himself and his means as evidence of
these outstanding characteristics; and,
WHEREAS, the demise of our esteemed friend and great benefactor leaves
a void in our community, and behooves us to redouble our efforts so that Corpus
Christi will continue its progress:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
That this expression of gratitude and appreciation on the part of the City
of Corpus Christi for the many years of devoted, conscientious, efficient and fruit-
ful service Morris L. Lichtenstein, Sr., rendered to the City, be conveyed to the
family, and that the sympathy of the entire citizenry of Corpus Christi be extended
to his family in their bereavement.

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
