AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, 1958, AS
AMENDED, SO AS TO CHANGE THE SCHEDULE OF GAS RATES
FOR CUSTOMERS OR CONSUMERS OF THE CITY OWNED GAS
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM BY AMENDING SECTION 38 -46 SO
AS TO PROVIDE THAT IN ALL INSTANCES WHERE THE
CONSECUTIVE MONTHS APRIL 1ST THROUGH NOVEMBER 30TH,
DECEMBER 1ST THROUGH MARCH 31ST APPEARS, SAID CON-
SECUTIVE MONTHS SHALL HEREAFTER READ BEGINNING WITH
THE READING AND BILLING OF CYCLE 11 IN APRIL AND
ENDING WITH THE READING AND BILLING OF CYCLE 10 IN
NOVEMBER, AND BEGINNING WITH THE READING AND BILLING
OF CYCLE 11 IN NOVEMBER THROUGH THE READING AND BILLING
OF CYCLE 10 IN APRIL RESPECTIVELY; LIMITING ALL PRESENT
EXISTING GAS RATE SCHEDULES TO AN ANNUAL AVERAGE OF 1
MILLION CUBIC FEET PER DAY; PROVIDING FOR LARGE VOLUME
CUSTOMERS NATURAL GAS SERVICE BY SPECIAL CONTRACT;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE
CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, it is deemed appropriate to change the Summer Incentive
Gas Air Conditioning Rate Schedules to begin with the reading and billing
of cycle 11 in April and ending with the reading and billing of cycle 10
in November:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT OMkI ED BY TFE CITY COUN -CIL. OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 38 -46 of the Corpus Christi City Code,
1958, as amended, and particularly as amended by Ordinance No, 7303 adopted
July 29, 1964, Ordinance No. 7773 adopted October 27, 1965, and Ordinance
No. 8552 adopted August 12, 1967, be, and the same is hereby amended as
follows:
Whenever the consecutive calendar months "April 1st through
November 30th" appears it shall hereafter read as follows:
"April through November, beginning with the reading
and billing of cycle 11 in April and ending with the
reading and billing of cycle 10 in November."
Whenever the consecutive calendar months "December lst through
March 31st appears it shall hereafte ead as follows:
"December through April, b ginning with the reading
and billing of cycle 11 in November and ending with
the reading and billing of cycle 10 in April."

SECTION 2. That all present existing gas rate schedules shall
be limited to customers using an annual average of one (1) million cubic
feet per day or three hundred and sixty -five (365) million cubic feet per
year or less. Provided, however, all large volume customers using an
annual average of one (1) million cubic feet per day or three hundred and
sixty -five (365) million cubic feet per year, or more, shall be billed for
natural gas service at the General.Customer Rate excluding the air condi-
tioning incentive unless a special contract has been executed by the City
and such customer.
SECTION 3. That the consecutive calendar months beginning with
the reading and billing of cycle 11 in April and ending with the reading
and billing of cycle 10 in November, set forth in Section 1 for 'One and
Two Family Residential Customers "; "General Rate Customers "; "Church, School,
Hospital and Governmental Agency Customers ", limiting the volume used in
each of these classifications and providing natural gas service by special
contract for all large volume customers; shall be effective from and after
March 27, 1970.
SECTION 4. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid, it
shall not affect any valid provisions of this or any other ordinance of the
City of Corpus Christi, to which these rules and regulations relate.
SECTION 5. No charges accruing prior to March 27, 1970, shall be
altered, released, relinquished or revoked by this ordinance. All other
provisions relating to rates and charges for gas services furnished by the
Gas Division of the Department of Public Utilities of the City of Corpus
Christi shall not be affected other than as herein provided.
SECTION 6. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi, after final passage, which
publication shall contain the caption stating in substance the purpose of
the ordinance.
SECTION 7. The necessity for immediately revising the gas rates
of the City -owned Gas Distribution System of the City of Corpus Christi

creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring
the suspension of the charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance
or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council,
and the Mayor having declared that such emergency and necessity exist, and
having requested that such Charter Rule be suspended, and that this ordi-
nance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect
and be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publicJa(tion,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the�day ofv ,

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
