HomeMy WebLinkAbout09734 RES - 05/04/1970A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, THE CITY HAS MADE APPLICATION AND RECEIVED GRANT FROM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION BY WHICH THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE COST OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF A WATER TRANSMISSION LINE TO FURNISH WATER TO PADRE ISLAND, FLOUR BLUFF AND THE UNITED STATES NAVAL AIR STATION; AND WHEREAS, THE CITY HAS COMMITTED ITSELF TO HAVE AVAILABLE THE FUNDS ALLOCATED FOR PAYMENT BY THE CITY; AND WHEREAS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE COST OF THE LINE WILL BE IN EXCESS OF THE ESTIMATED COST COVERED BY THE GRANT HERETOFORE ACCEPTED BY THE CITY,AND THE CITY IS PREPARED TO HAVE AVAILABLE SUCH ADDITIONAL FUNDS AS WILL BE NECESSARY TO ASSURE THE PAYMENT OF THE COST OF SUCH WATER LINE AS PLANNED: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT THE CITY HAS SUFFICIENT FUNDS AVAILABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCUREMENT OF THE WATER TRANSMISSION FACILITIES HEREIN.- ABOVE MENTIONED AND TO PAY THE COST THEREOF, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE GRANT WHICH HAS HERETOFORE BEEN COMMITTED TO THE CITY BY TIE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION, AND THE CITY WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE SUCH FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR THE AWARDING OF CONTRACT IF, AS AND WHEN THE SAME IS APPROVED. THE NECESSITY FOR IMMEDIATELY INFORMING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION OF THE AVAILABILITY OF SUCH FUNDS CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF SAID CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS RESOLUTION SE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, THIS DAY OF ATTEST: , 1970.
