WHEREAS, ON THE 4TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1970, THE PRESIDENT DECLARED
A "MAJOR DISASTER" IN THE STATE OF TEXAS UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF PUBLIC
LAW 875, 81ST CONGRESS, AS AMENDED AND PUBLIC LAW 79, 91ST CONGRESS; AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI IS A PUBLIC ENTITY WITHIN
SAID STATE:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: THAT THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
BE AND HEREBY IS REQUESTED TO ARRANGE TO HAVE THE APPROPRIATE FEDERAL
AGENCY PERFORM THE FOLLOWING EMERGENCY WORK ESSENTIAL TO THE HEALTH,
SAFETY OR WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE AND PROPERTY OF THIS PUBLIC ENTITY:
REMOVAL OF ALL HURRICANE - GENERATED DEBRIS WITHIN THE
CITY LIMITS OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND ANY OR ALL OTHER WORK
MUTUALLY AGREED UPON AND MADE AVAILABLE BY THE PROVI-
SIONS OF PUBLIC LAW 79, 91ST CONGRESS AND PUBLIC LAW
875, 81ST CONGRESS.
THIS BODY CERTIFIES THAT, TO THE BEST OF ITS KNOWLEDGE AND
BELIEF, THE REQUESTED WORK IS ELIGIBLE UNDER PUBLIC LAW 875, 81ST
CONGRESS, AS AMENDED, AND AGREES TO (A) PROVIDE WITHOUT COST TO THE
UNITED STATES ALL LANDS, EASEMENTS, AND RIGHTS -OF -WAY NECESSARY FOR
ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE APPROVED WORK; AND (B) HOLD AND SAVE THE UNITED
STATES FREE FROM DAMAGES DUE TO THE APPROVED WORK.
PASSED UNANIMOUSLY AS AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION AND APPROVED
THIS THE 5TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1970.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; 1, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
