Home My WebLink About09891 ORD - 08/12/1970AN ORDINANCE DIVIDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, INTO FORTY - SEVEN (47) ELECTION PRECINCTS FOR AND IN WHICH ALL MUNI- CIPAL ELECTIONS SHALL HEREAFTER BE HELD IN AND FOR SAID CITY AND SAME SHALL BE KNOWN AS ELECTION PRECINCTS WITH THE RESPECTIVE NUMBERS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CON- FLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is contemplating holding a special election on September 12, 1970; and WHEREAS, by virtue of the City Charter and the general laws of the State of Texas, the City Council is authorized to prescribe the pro- cedure for calling and holding elections and defining voting precincts; and WHEREAS, the City Council did on the 12th day of August, 1970, by Ordinance No. _!_ `, create and divide the City of Corpus Christi into Forty -seven (47) wards, and since the passage of said ordinance there has been no action by the City Council to divide the City into corresponding election precincts: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi is hereby divided into Forty -seven precincts within said City, within which respective pre- cincts the legally qualified voters residing in said election precincts shall vote in all elections as provided by law and that said election pre- cincts shall be defined, described and bounded as follows: (1) Election Princiact Number One (1) shall be composed of the first ward of the said City. (2) Election Precinct Number Two (2) shall be composed of the second ward of the said City. (3) Election Precinct Number Three (3) shall be composed of the third ward of said City. (4) Election Precinct Number Four (4) shall be composed of the fourth ward of the said City. (5) Election Precinct Number Five (5) shall be composed of the fifth ward of the said City. 9891 (6) Election Precinct Number Six (6) shall be composed of the sixth ward of the said City. (7) Election Precinct Number Seven (7) shall be composed of the seventh ward of the said City. (8) Election Precinct Number Eight (8) shall be composed of the eighth ward of the said City. (9) Election Precinct Number Nine (9) shall be composed of the ninth ward of the said City. (10) Election Precinct Number Ten (10) shall be composed of the tenth ward of the said City. (11) Election Precinct Number Eleven (11) shall be composed of the eleventh ward of the said City. (12) Election Precinct Number Twelve (12) shall be composed of the twelfth ward of the said City. (13) Election Precinct Number Thirteen (13) shall be com- posed of the thirteenth ward of the said City. (14) Election Precinct Number Fourteen (14) shall be com- posed of the fourteenth ward of the said City. (15) Election Precinct Number Fifteen (15) shall be com- posed of the fifteenth ward of the said City. (16) Election Precinct Number Sixteen (16) shall be com- posed of the sixteenth ward of the said City. (17) Election Precinct Number Seventeen (17) shall be com- posed of the seventeenth ward of the said City. (18) Election Precinct Number Eighteen (18) shall be com- posed of the eighteenth ward of the said City. (19) Election Precinct Number Nineteen (19) shall be com- posed of the nineteenth ward of the said City. (20) Election Precinct Number Twenty (20) shall be com- posed of the twentieth ward of the said City. (21) Election Precinct Number Twenty -one shall be com- posed of the twenty -first ward of the said City. (22) Election Precinct Number Twenty -two shall be com- posed of the twenty- second ward of the said City. (23) Election Precinct Number Twenty -three shall be com- posed of the twenty -third ward of the said City. (24) Election Precinct Number Twenty -four shall be com- posed of the twenty- fourth ward of the said City. (25) Election Precinct Number Twenty -five shall be com- posed of the twenty -fifth ward of said City. -2- (26) Election Precinct Number Twenty -six shall be composed Of the twenty -sixth ward of said City. (27) Election Precinct Number Twenty -seven shall be com- posed of the twenty- seventh ward of said City. (28) Election Precinct Number Twenty -eight shall be com- posed of the twenty- eighth ward of said City. (29) Election Precinct Number Twenty -nine shall be com- posed of the twenty -ninth ward of said City. (30) Election Precinct Number Thirty shall be composed of the thirtieth ward of said City. (31) Election Precinct Number Thirty -oqe shall be com- posed of the thirty -first ward of +said City. (32) Election Precinct Number Thirty -two shall be com- posed of the thirty- second ward of said City. (33) Election Precinct Number Thirty -three shall be com- posed of the thirty -third ward of said City. (34) Election Precinct Number Thirty -four shall be com- posed of the thirty - fourth ward of said City. (35) Election Precinct Number Thirty -five shall be com- posed of the thirty -fifth ward of said City. (36) Election Precinct Number Thirty -six shall be com- posed of the thirty -sixth ward of said City. (37) Election Precinct Number Thirty -seven shall be com- posed of the thirty - seventh ward of said City. (38) Election Precinct Number Thirty -eight shall be com- posed of the thirty - eighth ward of said City. (39) Election Precinct Number Thirty -nine shall be com- posed of the thirty -ninth ward of said City. (40) Election Precinct Number Forty shall be composed of the fortieth ward of said City. (41) Election Precinct Number Forty -one shall be com- posed of the forty -first ward of said City. (42) Election Precinct Number Forty -two shall be com- posed of the forty - second ward of said City. (43) Election Precinct Number Forty -three shall be com- posed of the forty -third ward of said City. (44) Election Precinct Number Forty -four shall be com- posed of the forty- fourth ward of the said City. -3- • • (45) Election Precinct Number Forty -five (45) shall be composed of the forty -fifth ward of the said City. (46) Election Precinct Number Forty -six (46) shall be composed of the forty -sixth ward of the said City. (47) Election Precinct Number Forty Seven (47) shall be composed of the forty - seventh ward of the said City. Each of the respective wards as herein referred to, are as fixed by ordinance duly passed and approved on the 12th day of August, 1970, by the City Council of the City .of Corpus Christi, Texas. SECTION 2. All other ordinances which have heretofore been passed and which have set out and established election precincts for the City of Corpus Christi are hereby repealed and Ordinance No. 9323 is hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 3. The fact that the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi deems it necessary that the City of Corpus Christi be divided into Forty -seven (47) election precincts in order to provide proper facilities for voting in the forthcoming special election and other elections to be held in the City of Corpus Christi creates a public emergency and an impera- tive public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter Rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its intro- duction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared that such emer- gency and necessity exist, and having requested that such Charter Rule be suspended, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the day of August, 1970.
