HomeMy WebLinkAbout09960 ORD - 10/14/1970AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 8127, AS AMENDED, BY CREATING THE POSITIONS OF CHIEF OF FIRE AND CHIEF OF POLICE AS • UNCLASSIFIED POSITIONS AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY GRADE FOR EACH, BY AMENDING SECTION 1, PARAGRAPH (a); DELETING THE CLASSIFIED POSITIONS OF POLICE CHIEF AND FIRE CHIEF EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 31, 1970, BY AMENDING SECTION 1, PARAGRAPH (a); AMENDING SECTION 2, SUBSECTION (b), BY PROVIDING MECHANICS OF ADVANCEMENT IN SALARY GRADE FOR THE CHIEF OF FIRE AND THE CHIEF OF POLICE; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 1, Paragraph (a) of said Ordinance No. 8127, be, and the same is hereby amended by creating the following positions: JOB CODE POSITION SALARY GRADE 074 Chief of Fire 36 075 Chief of Police 36 r SECTION 2. That Section 1, Paragraph (a) of said Ordinance No. 8127, be, and the same is hereby amended by deleting the following classifications effective December 31, 1970: JOB CODE CLASS TITLE CLASS GRADE 011 Fire Chief - 021 Police Chief - SECTION 3. That Section 2, Subsection (b) of said Ordinance No. 8127, be, and the same is hereby amended by adding Paragraph (8) to read as follows: "(8) Not withstanding any other section of this ordinance, advancement beyond the "C" step for the positions of Chief of Fire and Chief of Police shall be only according to the provisions of Section 2, Subsection (b), Paragraph (6)." SECTION 4. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid, it shall not affect any valid provision of this or any other.ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi to which these rules and regulations relate. SECTION 5. The effective date of the above changes will be October 7, 1970. SECTION 6. The fact that there is-an immediate need to create certain new positions and a need to maintain an efficient administration of City affairs creates a public emergency and an-imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter Rule that no ordinance or resolution -996® shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having requested the suspension of the said Charter Rule, and that this ordinance be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, this the /day of October, 1970. C ATTORNEY Corpus Christii, Tex day of , 19?° TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen- sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi- nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
