AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING SECTION 11 -5 OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE,
1958, AS AMENDED, AND PARTICULARLY AS AMENDED BY
ORDINANCE NO. 9915, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 9, 1970, BY ADOPTING THE APPENDICES
TO THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1?69 EDITION,
"A", "B ", "C ", "D", "E", "F ", "G ", AND "H', CHAPTER VI,
"CLASSIFICATION OF BUILDINGS BY CONSTRUCTION" AND A
TABLE 500, "FIRE PROTECTIVE REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED FIRE
RESISTANCE IN HOURS ", AND BY ADOPTING THE AMENDED APPENDIX
"B", "FIRE RESISTANCE RATINGS FOR MATERIALS AND CONSTRUC-
TION" AS THE SAME APPEARS IN THE 1970 REVISION TO THE
SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, BY ORDINANCE NO. 9915, PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 9, 1970, THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE,
1969 EDITION, WITH 1970 REVISION, WAS ADOPTED AS THE BUILDING CODE FOR
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; AND
WHEREAS, NO REFERENCE WAS MADE TO ADOPTION OF THE APPENDICES
TO THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE 1969 EDITION, APPENDICES "A" THROUGH
"H ", INCLUSIVE, CHAPTER VI, "CLASSIFICATION OF BUILDINGS BY CONSTRUCTION",
NOR TABLE 600, "FIRE PROTECTIVE REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED FIRE RESISTANCE IN
HOURS ", NOR TO THE AMENDED APPENDIX "B ", "FIRE RESISTANCE RATINGS FOR
MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION" AS THE SAME APPEARS IN THE 1970 REVISION TO THE
SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE; AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY COUNCIL CONCLUDES THAT THE RECORDS SHOULD REFLECT
THAT SAID APPENDICES "A" THROUGH "H", INCLUSIVE, CHAPTER VI AND TABLE 600,
AND AMENDED APPENDIX "B" WERE AND ARE INTENDED TO BE INCORPORATED IN THE
ADOPTION OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE AS ADOPTED BY ORDINANCE
No. 9915:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT SECTION 11 -5 OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE,
1958, AS AMENDED, AND PARTICULARLY AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 9915, PASSED
AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 9, 1970, BE AMENDED BY ADOPTING
THE APPENDICES TO THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1969 EDITION, "A"
THROUGH "H", INCLUSIVE, CHAPTER VI, "CLASSIFICATION OF BUILDINGS BY CONSTRUC-
TION", AND A TABLE 600, "FIRE PROTECTIVE REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED FIRE RESISTANCE
IN HOURS" AND BY ADOPTING THE AMENDED APPENDIX "B ", "FIRE RESISTANCE RATINGS

FOR MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION ", AS THE SAME APPEARS IN THE 1970 REVISION
TO THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE, AND SAID APPENDICES AND TABLE ARE
HEREBY DECLARED TO BE A PART OF SAID SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1969
EDITION, AS AMENDED, FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES.
SECTION 2. IF FOR ANY REASON ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUBDIVI-
SION, CLAUSE, PHRASE, OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE HELD
INVALID, IT SHALL NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISIONS OF THIS OR ANY
OTHER ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TO WHICH THESE RULES
AND REGULATIONS RELATE.
SECTION 3. PUBLICATION SHALL BE MADE ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL
PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL
CONTAIN THE CAPTION STATING IN SUBSTANCE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE.
SECTION 4. THE NECESSITY TO CLARIFY THE "INTENTION OF THE
CITY COUNCIL IN ADOPTING THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1969
EDITION, WITH 1970 REVISION, TO REFLECT THE INCLUSION OF APPENDICES
"A" THROUGH "H ", INCLUSIVE, CHAPTER VI AND TABLE 600, "FIRE PROTECTIVE
REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED FIRE RESISTANCE IN HOURS ", AND AMENDED APPENDIX
"B ", AS MORE FULLY DESCRIBED HEREINABOVE, CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY
AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE
CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY
ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION BUT THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION
SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE
MAYOR HAVING DECLARED SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY TO EXIST, AND HAVING
REQUESTED THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE
BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND
BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE AND PUBLICATION,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THEpLa7& DAY OF

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
