A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, THE CORPUS CHRISTI COMMUNITY HAS LOST A VALUABLE CIVIC
LEADER IN THE PERSON OF COUNTY JUDGE R. BRISCOE KING WHO DIED ON TUESDAY,
NOVEMBER 24, 1970; AND
WHEREAS, JUDGE KING HAS BEEN A CIVIC LEADER FOR MANY YEARS AND
THE HOLDER OF MANY OFFICIAL POSITIONS INCLUDING THE POSITION OF CITY
ATTORNEY FOR MORE THAN FOUR YEARS FROM 1937 UNTIL 1942; AND
WHEREAS, JUDGE KING HAS BEEN A RESPECTED PRACTICING ATTORNEY
FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS AND THE LEADER IN MANY CIVIC AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS
INCLUDING SERVING AS PRESIDENT OF THE DOWNTOWN LIONS CLUB, PRESIDENT OF
THE BUCARADERS, PRESIDENT OF THE BUCCANEER COMMISSION, DISASTER RELIEF
CHAIRMAN FOR THE NUECES COUNTY CHAPTER OF THE RED CROSS, DIRECTOR OF
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES, MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF NUECES COUNTY
BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS, AND DIRECTOR OF THE NUECES RIVER CONSERVATION
AND RECLAMATION DISTRICT; AND
WHEREAS, JUDGE KINGS DEATH WILL BE A GREAT LOSS TO THE CITIZENS
OF THIS CITY AND COUNTY AND DIFFICULT TO REPLACE:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT THIS BRIEF RECORD OF THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS .
OF JUDGE R. BRISCOE KING BE RECALLED AND THAT THE CITIZENS OF THIS
COMMUNITY JOIN IN THE MOURNING IN THE LOSS OF THIS VALUABLE CITIZEN;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE CITY SECRETARY FORWARD A COPY
OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE FAMILY OF JUDGE R. BRISCOE KING.
PASSED AND APPROVED THIS THE 25TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1970.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
