AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE,
FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, AN
EXTENSION AGREEMENT OF THE CONTRACT HERETOFORE ENTERED
INTO BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE CORPUS CHRISTI CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE FOR THE YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 1970, FOR THE
PURPOSE OF PROMOTING ADDITIONAL CONVENTIONS AND TO BETTER
SERVE THE CONVENTIONS WHICH ARE AND WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR
CORPUS CHRISTI, ALL AS MORE FULLY SET FORTH IN THE EXTENSION
AGREEMENT, A COPY OF WHICH IS ATTACHED HERETO AND MADE A PART
HEREOF; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized

and directed to execute, for and on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi,
an Extension Agreement of the contract heretofore entered into between the
City and the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce for the year ending September
30, 1970, for the purpose of promoting additional conventions and to better
serve the conventions which are and will be scheduled for Corpus Christi,
all as more fully set forth in the Extension Agreement, a copy of which
is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
SECTION 2. The necessity to enter into the aforesaid agreement
at the earliest practicable date in order to carry out the intentions of
the parties in the promotion of conventions for the City of Corpus Christi
creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity requiring the
suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be
passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council,
and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and
having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance
be passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be
in full force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO
ORDAINED, this the `74111 day of December, 1970.

The agreement dated the 24th day of October, 1968, between the
City of Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce is hereby
extended for a period of twelve (12) months from the expiration date thereof
of said contract; provided, however, that paragraph 1 of Section B, provid-
ing for reimbursement not to exceed Thirty -Six Thousand Dollars ($36,000),
is amended to the effect that the City will compensate Chamber for profes-
sional services in the amount not to exceed Thirty -Five Thousand Dollars
($35,000).
Except as herein provided, all other provisions of the agreement
heretofore entered into are continued in full force and effect.
WITNESS OUR HANDS IN DUPLICATE, each of which shall be considered
an original, this the day of December, 1970.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of' the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council. '
