HomeMy WebLinkAbout10092 RES - 02/03/1971It =ti 2- 3- 71:mvl e, A RESOLUTION RESOLUTION OF CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI APPROVING THE PREPARATION OF A COMMUNITY RENEWAL PROGRAM FOR CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS AND THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION FOR A FEDERAL GRANT TO ASSIST IN FINANCING ITS PREPARATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS under Title I of the Housing Act of 1949, as amended, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is authorized to make grants for the preparation or completion of Community Renewal Programs; and WHEREAS Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits dis- crimination on the basis of race, color or national origin under any pro- gram or activity receiving Federal financial assistance; and WHEREAS it is desirable and in the public interest that the City of Corpus Christi prepare a Community Renewal Program for the City of Corpus Christi, situated in the County of Nueces and State of Texas; and WHEREAS it is recognized that the Federal contract for a grant to assist in the preparation of the Community Renewal Program will require, among other things, (1) preparation by the City of Corpus Christi of the Community Renewal Program with all practicable dispatch; (2) conformance of the Community Renewal Program with the general plan of the Locality as a whole; (3) provision of the Locality's share of the cost of preparation of the Community Renewal Program; and (4) other local obligations and respon- sibilities in connection with the preparation of the Community Renewal Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: 1. That the preparation of the Community Renewal Program referred to above by the City of Corpus Christi is hereby approved. 2. That the financial assistance under Title I of the Housing Act of 1949, as amended, referred to above, is required to enable the City of Corpus Christi to finance the preparation of the Community Renewal Program. 3. That it is fully cognizant of the obligations and responsi- bilities that are imposed by a Federal contract for a grant to assist in the preparation of a Community Renewal Program, and that it is the sense of this body that such obligations can and will be fulfilled. 10092 It 4. That the filing of an application by the City of Corpus Christi for a grant under Title I of the Housing Act of 1949, as amended, in an amount not to exceed $360,468 to assist in financing the preparation of a Community Renewal Program for the Locality is hereby authorized and approved.
