AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 9499, GENERALLY REFERRED TO
AS "THE ELECTRICAL LICENSING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI ", PASSED ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1969,
AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 2 -1 AND SECTION
2 -1A TO HEREAFTER PROVIDE FOR ALL PERSONS HAVING
EXISTING CONTRACTS FOR ELECTRICAL WORK AND WITHOUT
CITY MASTER'S LICENSES WILL BE PERMITTED TO APPLY
FOR PERMITS UNTIL FEBRUARY 27, 1971. THROUGH
FEBRUARY 26, 1971, ANY MASTER'S LICENSE ISSUED BY
ANY RECOGNIZED GOVERNMENTAL SUBDIVISION WILL BE
ACCEPTABLE, IF VERIFIABLE BY THE CITY ELECTRICAL
INSPECTOR, FOR PURPOSES OF OBTAINING CITY ELEC-
TRICAL PERMITS AND PURSUING SAID WORK THEREUNDER
UNTIL COMPLETION; REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH; PROVIDING A SAVING CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. THAT ORDINANCE No. 9499, GENERALLY REFERRED TO AS
"THE ELECTRICAL LICENSING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ", PASSED
ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1969, AS AMENDED, BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED BY
AMENDING SECTION 2 -1 AND 2 -1(A): LICENSE REQUIRED: TO HEREAFTER READ AS
FOLLOWS:
"SECTION 2 -1: LICENSE REQUIRED: IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY
PERSON TO ENGAGE IN THE BUSINESS OF INSTALLING, MAINTAINING, ALTERING, OR
REPAIRING ANY WIRING, FIXTURES OR EQUIPMENT USED FOR THE CONDUCTING OF
ELECTRICITY FOR WHICH A PERMIT IS REQUIRED BY THE CORPUS CHRISTI ELECTRICAL
CODE, NOR SHALL ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION IN ANY MANNER UNDERTAKE TO
EXECUTE SUCH WORK UNLESS SUCH PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION IS HOLDER OF A
LICENSE AS REQUIRED HEREIN, EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 2 -14 OF THIS
CHAPTER.
"SECTION 2 -1(A): EVERY ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR MUST HAVE A CURRENT
LICENSE AS A MASTER ELECTRICIAN. EVERY MASTER ELECTRICIAN MUST HAVE AND
MAINTAIN AN ESTABLISHED PLACE OF BUSINESS AND SHALL HAVE A TELEPHONE AND A
PERSON IN ATTENDANCE TO RECEIVE MESSAGES FROM THE ELECTRICAL INSPECTION
SECTION OF THE CITY OR OTHER PERSONS CONCERNED DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS,
HEREAFTER, ALL PERSONS HAVING EXISTING CONTRACTS FOR ELECTRICAL WORK WILL
BE PERMITTED TO APPLY FOR PERMITS UNTIL FEBRUARY 27, 1971. THROUGH FEBRUARY
26, 1971, ANY MASTER'S LICENSE ISSUED BY ANY RECOGNIZED GOVERNMENTAL

SUBDIVISION WILL BE ACCEPTABLE, IF VERIFIABLE BY THE CITY ELECTRICAL
INSPECTOR, FOR PURPOSES OF OBTAINING CITY ELECTRICAL PERMITS AND PURSUING SAID
WORK THEREUNDER UNTIL COMPLETION."
SECTION 2. THAT ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH ARE HEREWITH EXPRESSLY REPEALED.
SECTION 3. IF FOR ANY REASON, ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUBDIVISION,
CLAUSE, PHRASE, OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE HELD INVALID, IT
SHALL NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISIONS OF THIS OR ANY OTHER ORDINANCE OR CODE
OF THIS CITY TO WHICH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATE.
SECTION 4. PUBLICATION SHALL-BE MADE ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL PUB-
LICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL CONTAIN THE
CAPTION STATING IN SUBSTANCE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORDINANCE.
SECTION 5.. THE NECESSITY TO ADOPT THE HEREINABOVE DESCRIBED PRO-
VISION AT THE EARLIEST PRACTICABLE DATE CREATES A PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN
IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECESSITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE
THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS
INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE
SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT
SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY EXIST, AND HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER
RULE BE SUSPENDED, AND THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF
ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT FROM AND
N AFTER ITS PASSAGE AND PUBLICATION, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for th.e suspen-
sion of the•Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
