RESOLI,T`ION
WHEREAS, James M. Dellinger, Sr., an outstanding citizen of our community,
suffered an untimely death March 28, 1971; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dellinger was one of the City's foremost civic leaders; his interest
in civic activities extended beyond the City's limits - they were statewide as well as
national in scope; he served six years as a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission;
a member of the County Park Board; a director of the Chamber of Commerce; a past President
of the Texas Heavy Highway Contractors; a Board member and past President of the Associated
Contractors of America, and in many other capacities; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dellinger's friends were among the highest and most influential in aV
the nation, to the common laborer and every step in between; his kindly manner, his charity,
although unostentatious, and genuine concern for his fellowman endeared him to untold
numbers; and

WHEREAS, the demise of our esteemed friend leaves a great void in our midst; but
"Jimmy" would not have us grieve and would prefer that we redouble our efforts and "carry
on" for the greater honor arid glory of God, and the welfare of our City, State and Nation:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
That this expression of gratitude and appreciation on the part of the City of Corpus
Christi for the many years of devoted, conscientious, efficient and fruitful service that
James M. Dellinger, Sr. rendered to the City, be conveyed to the family, and that the
sympathy of the entire citizenry of Corpus Christi be extended to his family in their bereave-
ment.

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance, a public emergency and imperative necessity exist for the suspen-
sion of the Charter rule or requirement that no ordinance or resolution shall
be passed finally on the date it is introduced, and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three meetings of the City Council; I, therefore,
request that you suspend said Charter rule or requirement and pass this ordi-
nance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the
City Council.
