HomeMy WebLinkAbout10262 RES - 05/19/1971JRR:JKH:5 -19-71 A RESOLUTION t N r AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND, FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, THE CITY'S SPECIAL CELIA RELIEF FUND FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF YOUTH BASEBALL FACILITIES ON- PWBrI- C- PREM+I -S[S- IN THE CITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. f9J -_p -71 WHEREAS, VARIOUS INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS HAVE DONATED SUMS OF MONEY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGES CAUSED BY HURRICANE CELIA, WHICH FUND HAS BEEN DESIGNATED THE "CITY'S SPECIAL CELIA RELIEF FUND"; AND WHEREAS, THE CITY COUNCIL FINDS THAT NEARLY ALL BASEBALL FIELDS USED BY THE LITTLE LEAGUE AND THE PONY LEAGUE IN THE CITY WERE SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED BY HURRICANE CELIA; AND WHEREAS, IT IS THE FINDING OF THE CITY COUNCIL THAT THE EX- PENDITURE OF THE MONEY ON HAND IN THE SAID SPECIAL CELIA RELIEF FUND FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF YOUTH BASEBALL FACILITIES ON- PhfBL-I•G -PREM I -SES+ s -�9 -71 IN THE CITY WILL BE IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST AND WILL CARRY OUT THE PUR- POSE FOR WHICH THE FUND WAS ESTABLISHED: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. THAT THE CITY MANAGER IS HEREBY AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED, FOR AND-IN BEHALF OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO EXPEND THE CITY'S SPECIAL CELIA RELIEF FUND FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF YOUTH BASEBALL FACILITIES 0N- PU8t71"C- PREMtSE°S IN THE CITY. THE CITY MANAGER SHALL BE GUIDED IN HIS DISTRIBU- TION OF MONEY FOR SUCH PURPOSE, AND THROUGH SUCH AGENTS AS HE MAY DESIG- NATE,BY THE CONSIDERATION OF THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS, ON TK AVERAGE, DURING THE PREVIOUS YEAR IN BASEBALL PROGRAMS AT A GIVEN PUBLIC PLAYING FIELD, THE PROBABLE AVAILIBILITY OF OTHER RESOURCES TO THE SPONSORS OF SUCH LITTLE LEAGUE, PONY LEAGUE OR OTHER RECOGNIZED YOUTH BASEBALL ACTIVITY FOR RECONSTRUCTION PURPOSES, AND THE EXTENT OF RECONSTRUCTION NEEDED AT THE VARIOUS PREMISES. THE CITY MANAGER SHALL FURTHER CONSIDER THE PREVAILING ECONOMIC LEVEL OF THE PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN BASEBALL AT A GIVEN PUBLIC PREMISES. 10262 ,f L PASSED AND APPROVED, THIS THE "/ av OF MAY, 1971.
