HomeMy WebLinkAbout10348 ORD - 07/14/19716/29/71:e • AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 21 -68 OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY CODE, 1958, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING A PORTION OF THE SECTION PERTAINING TO SPEED LIMITS ON SOUTH PADRE ISLAND DRIVE FROM N.A.S. DRIVE TO THE EAST CITY LIMIT LINE; PROVIDING A SEVERANCE CLAUSE; PROVIDING A REPEALING CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. WHEREAS, Ordinance 7077 and Ordinance 7763 were passed to regulate the speed on Island Drive between Lexington Boulevard and the Padre Causeway Toll Gate, and on Island Drive between Lexington Boulevard and Laguna Shores Drive; and WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 7870 was passed changing the name of Lexington Boulevard between Kosar Road and Island Drive, and changing the name of Island Drive from its intersection with Lexington Boulevard to the City Limits Line (approximately the North end of the John F. Kennedy Causeway), to thereafter both be known as South Padre Island Drive: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 21 -68 of the Corpus Christi City Code, 1958, as amended, be amended by deleting the following references to speed limits on South Padre Island Drive: As provided in Ordinance 7077: NAME OF STREET SPEED LIMIT EFFECTIVE TIME "Island Drive, from Lexington Boulevard to the Padre Causeway Toll Gate 45 miles per hour At all times "; and as provided in Ordinance 7763: "Island Drive, between Lexington Boulevard and Laguna Shores Drive 35 miles per hour At all times "; and that said Section 21 -68 be further amended by adding the following, with reference to speed on South Padre Island Drive: 10348 NAME OF STREET SPEED LIMIT EFFECTIVE TIME "SOUTH PADRE ISLAND DRIVE: From N.A.S. Drive to a point 250 feet east of the centerline of E. Lakeside Drive 40 miles per hour At all times From a point 250 feet east of E. Lakeside Drive centerline to a point 1680 feet east of the east end of the Humble Channel Bridge 50 miles per hour At all times From a point 1680 feet east of the east end of Humble Channel Bridge to the east City Limit line 60 miles per hour At all times". SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, or provision of this Ordinance shall be held invalid by final judgment of a court of competent juris- diction, it shall not affect any valid provisions of this or any other ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi to which these rules and regulations relate. SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith shall be and are hereby repealed to the extent of conflict herewith. SECTION 4. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi one time, which publi- cation shall contain the caption, stating in substance the purpose of the Ordinance.
