AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4826, PASSED AND APPROVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL ON THE 31ST DAY OF JULY, 1957, BY
AMENDING SECTION 1 OF SAID ORDINANCE SO AS TO INCREASE
THE LICENSE FEE FOR RETAIL MEAT DEALERS; CONTAINING A
SAVINGS CLAUSE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS: ,, o ,
SECTION 1. THAT SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE N0. 4826, PASSED AND
APPROVED ON THE 31ST DAY OF JULY, 1957, BE, AND THE SAME IS HEREBY, AMENDED
TO HEREAFTER READ AS FOLLOWS:
"SECTION 1. SAID LICENSE FOR SAID RETAIL MEAT DEALERS SHALL BE
ISSUED BY THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, AND SHALL BE
DATED THE 1ST DAY OF JANUARY, EACH YEAR, AND SHALL BE IN FULL FORCE AND
EFFECT FOR ONE YEAR AFTER THE DATE THEREOF PROVIDED THAT THOSE PERSONS DESIR-
ING TO ENGAGE IN SAID BUSINESS AFTER THE 1ST DAY OF JANUARY OF ANY YEAR MAY
OBTAIN A LICENSE FOR THE REMAINING PORTION OF SAID YEAR; SAID LICENSE SHALL
1 BE NONTRANSFERABLE EXCEPT BY PERMISSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, AFTER PROPER
APPLICATION TO SAID COUNCIL. NO REFUND SHALL BE ALLOWED ON ANY UNUSED POR-
TION OF ANY LICENSE. THE APPLICANT OR APPLICANTS FOR SAID LICENSE SHALL PAY
A GRADUATED LICENSE FEE ON THE FOLLOWING BASIS:
A. WHERE THE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN ANY CAPACITY IN SAID
BUSINESS DOES NOT EXCEED TWO, THE ANNUAL LICENSE FEE SHALL BE $20.00.
B. WHERE THE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN ANY CAPACITY IN SAID
BUSINESS EXCEEDS TWO BUT DOES NOT EXCEED FIVE, THE ANNUAL LICENSE FEE SHALL
BE *.00.
C. WHERE THE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN ANY CAPACITY IN SAID
BUSINESS EXCEEDS FIVE, BUT DOES NOT EXCEED EIGHT, THE ANNUAL LICENSE FEE
SHALL BE 60.00.
D. WHERE THE NUMBER OF PERSONS EMPLOYED IN ANY CAPACITY IN SAID

BUSINESS EXCEEDS EIGHT, THE ANNUAL LICENSE FEE SHALL BE .00.°

SECTION 2. IF FOR ANY REASON ANY SECTION, PARAGRAPH, SUBDIVISION,
CLAUSE, PHRASE, OR PROVISION OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE HELD INVALID, IT SHALL
NOT AFFECT ANY VALID PROVISION OF THIS OR ANY OTHER ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TO WHICH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATE.
SECTION 3. ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HERE-
WITH SHALL BE, AND ARE, REPEALED. ANY PRIOR ORDINANCE PROVIDING LICENSE FEES
CONTRARY OR INCONSISTENT WITH THE FEES ESTABLISHED BY THIS ORDINANCE ARE HERE-
BY REPEALED AND THE FEES ESTABLISHED HEREBY SHALL APPLY.
SECTION 4. THIS ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS
PUBLICATION ONE TIME IN THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
WHICH PUBLICATION SHALL CONTAIN THE CAPTION STATING IN SUMMARY THE PURPOSE OF
THE ORDINANCE AND THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF.
SECTION 5. THE PUBLIC IMPORTANCE OF THIS ORDINANCE CREATES A PUBLIC
EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC EMERGENCY AND AN IMPERATIVE PUBLIC NECES-
SITY REQUIRING THE SUSPENSION OF THE CHARTER RULE THAT NO ORDINANCE OR RESOLU-
TION SHALL BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND THAT SUCH
ORDINANCE OR RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE SEVERAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY
COUNCIL, AND THE MAYOR HAVING DECLARED THAT SUCH EMERGENCY AND NECESSITY EXIST,
AND HAVING REQUESTED THAT SUCH CHARTER RULE BE SUSPENDED, AND THAT THIS ORDI-
NANCE BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE OF ITS INTRODUCTION AND TAKE EFFECT AND
BE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT AS HEREINABOVE PROVIDED FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE,
IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS THE 28TH DAY OF JULY, 1971.

BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; I, THEREFORE
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
