REQUESTING EXTENSION FOR T10 MONTHS OF A DISCRETIONARY
GRANT FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION
TO CONTROL THE USE OF NARCOTICS AND DANGEROUS DRUGS; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY -.
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has received a Discretionary
Grant from the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration to assist it in
the implementation of a program designed to control the use of narcotics
and dangerous drugs (with funds made available under authority of Section
306 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968); and,
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Drug Abuse Council has successfully
administered said Discretionary Grant for the purpose of combating the use
of narcotics and dangerous drugs in this area and,
WHEREAS, said Discretionary Grant will terminate effective
February 27, 1972 and,
WHEREAS, there are available in unexpended funds a sum of
$10,171.93 remaining in said Discretionary Grant:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.
SECTION 1. That the City Council requests that said Discretionary
Grant scheduled to terminate on February 27, 1972 be extended for a two -month
period to be terminated April 27, 1972 and that the unexpended funds of
$10,171.93 be spent for continuation of the current program administered by
the Drug Abuse Council and that a copy of this request for extension for said
grant be sent to the Texas Criminal Justice Council.
SECTION 2. The necessity to immediately extend the aforesaid Grant
creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the
suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be
passed finally on the date of its introduction and that such ordinance or
resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and
the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, and having
requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and'take effect and be in full force

and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED,

BE PASSED FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, AND THAT SUCH ORDINANCE OR
RESOLUTION SHALL BE READ AT THREE MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL; 1, THEREFOREI
REQUEST THAT YOU SUSPEND SAID CHARTER RULE OR REQUIREMENT AND PASS THIS ORDI-
NANCE FINALLY ON THE DATE IT IS INTRODUCED, OR AT THE PRESENT MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL.
