AN ORDINANCE
FINDING THAT THE COST OF PROVIDING CITY'S INTRASTATE CHARTER
BUS SERVICE HAS SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASED; THAT AN INCREASE
IS ESSENTIAL; THAT THE INCREASED COST OF OPERATIONS WILL
OFFSET THE INCREASED RATES; THAT THE INCREASE IS WITHIN
THE PRICE COMMISSION GUIDELINES AND THE INCREASE IS
REASONABLE, JUST, AND FAIR; AMENDING SECTION 2 -C OF
ORDINANCE 9864 PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
ON JULY 29, 1970, BY PARTIAL REPEAL AND SUBSTITUTION OF
A NEW TARIFF OF CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI INTRASTATE CHARTER
COACH CHARGES FOR INTRASTATE AREA CHARTERS, SO AS TO IN-
CREASE THE CITY'S INTRASTATE CHARTER BUS RATES IN ACCORD-
ANCE WITH THE ATTACHED SCHEDULE, MARKED EXHIBIT "A ',
ANNEXED HERETO, AND BY THIS REFERENCE INCORPORATED HEREIN
IN ITS ENTIRETY, WHICH IS ADOPTED BY THIS ORDINANCE; PRO-
VIDING SEVERABILITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the cost of providing City intrastate charter bus
service, including operators' salaries and bus maintenance, has increased
substantially since July 29, 1970; and `
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that an increase in
such charter rates and fares is essential; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the increased cost of
operation and finds that the proposed increase in rates for said charter
bus service will no more than offset the cost increases which have occurred
since July, 1970, in particular the cost of salaries and bus maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has found that the proposed increase is
consistent with the guidelines set forth by the Price Commission in its
March 20, 1972, edition and in particular 300.16A and 300.16C; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the hereinafter prescribed
rates and fares are reasonable, just and fair, being in the public interest,
- -and will help defray the increased operating costs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 2 -c of Ordinance No. 9864 and all other
ordinances in conflict herewith, insofar as the same are conflictive with
this ordinance, be and they are hereby repealed and the following substituted
in lieu thereof:
" Intra -State Charter Rates
City of Corpus Christi, Texas Intrastate Charter Coach
Charges, in accordance with the attached schedule
which is hereby adopted and ratified as the City Intra-
state Charter Rates."

SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid, it
shall not affect any valid provisions of this or any other ordinance of
the City of Corpus Christi to which these rules and regulations relate.
SECTION 3. The necessity to immediately effect the changes herein -
above set forth to reduce the unwarranted depletion of the City's taxes
received in the performance of this unique City bus service, so promotive
of the public safety and welfare of the City's inhabitants, creates a public
emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the
Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on
the date of its introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be
read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having
requested the suspension of the Charter rule and having declared that such
public emergency and necessity exist, and that this ordinance be passed
finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full force
and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO ORDAINED, THIS
the 10th day of May, 1972.
