HomeMy WebLinkAbout10882 RES - 05/31/1972I j JRR:vmp 5/22/72:3rd A RESOLUTION'ft, REQUESTING THE TEXAS WATER- QUALITY BOARD TO ISSUE A CONTROL ORDER ESTABLISHING CONTROL AND SUPERVISION OF SANITATION AROUND LAKE CORPUS CHRISTI AND THE t,NUECES RIVER BELOW WESLEY SEALS DAM TO THE CALL LEN DAM AND TO DESIGNATE THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AS POLICING AGENT. WHEREAS, Lake Corpus Christi and the Nueces River below Lake Corpus Christi is used for fishing, boating, and recreational uses which require use of the water in an unpolluted form; and WHEREAS, developments around said lake require water for domestic use from said lake and river in an unpolluted form; and WHEREAS, in addition to the immediate uses of water in the lake area, approximately 300,000 residents of the Coastal Bend are dependent upon the lake for their water supply; and WHEREAS, a Texas Water Quality Board order controlling and super- AA vising sanitation in and around Lake Corpus Christi and the Nueces River below Wesley Seale Dam to the Calallen dam and designating the City of Corpus Christi as the policing agent of said order will help to eliminate future pollution of the area water supply by developments in the watershed such as improperly installed septic tanks that allow the effluent to flow directly or indirectly into the Lake or River without proper filtering and other polluting sources which may carry pathogenic bacteria that can be harmful to those individuals using water directly from the Lake or the River or using the Lake or River for recreational activities; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi: r, r SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi requests and recommends that the Texas Water Quality Board issue a control order establishing control and supervision of sanitation around Lake Corpus Christi and along the Nueces River below Wesley Seale Dam to the Calallen diversion dam and designate the City of Corpus Christi as a policing agent for the Board Order. :10882 0 JRR:vmp 5/22/72:3rd SECTION 2. That the City Secretary be and hereby is authorized and directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Texas Water Quality Board at its headquarters in Austin.
