Plato, former Mayor, has on this the 31st day of May, 1972, been called to his eternal reward; and WHEREAS, it will be remembered that Mr. Plato was a devoted citizen and servant of the people of Corpus Christi, expertly guiding the City through the early days of the Great Depression when the City was in dire financial straits; and WHEREAS, because of the many accomplishments for Corpus Christi and its citizenry, which we enjoy today, he was esteemed and loved for his service as Mayor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Plato has been a respected business and civic leader for more than 60 years including serving as a Director of Nueces County Navigation District, Trustee of the Board of Regents of Del Mar College, a charter member of the Corpus Christi Rotary, President of Corpus Christi Hardware and Director of Corpus Christi State National Bank; and WHEREAS, Mr. Plato's death will be a great loss to the citizens of this City and leaves a void in our community which cannot be replaced; his absence will be a great loss to his many friends: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this brief record of the many accomplishments of Edwin F. Plato be recalled and that the citizens of this community Join in mourning the loss of this valuable citizen; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Secretary forward a copy of this Resolution to the family of Edwin F.
